Male Studies Program at Wagner College

Announcement here. Excerpt:

'A gathering of academicians drawn from a range of disciplines will meet on April 7, 2010, at Wagner College, Staten Island, New York, to examine the declining state of the male, stemming from cataclysmic changes in today’s culture, environment and global economy. The live teleconferenced colloquium will be co-chaired by Judith Kleinfeld, PhD, Professor of Psychology and Director of the Boys Project at the University of Alaska, and Lionel Tiger, PhD, Rutgers University Charles Darwin Professor of Anthropology. It will encompass a broad range of topics relevant to the study of boys and men in contemporary society ranging from their roles in the family and workforce, as well as their physical and emotional health, to the growing problem of misandry—the hatred of males, an unacknowledged but underlying socio-cultural, economic, political and legal phenomenon endangering the well-being of both genders.'

Also from anthony: Feministing's take on this news:

'Anyway, just wanted to share this in case people may not have heard about it. It reminds me of those university programs funded by Christian fundamentalists to nurture the free market & conservative intellectuals of the future. In this case, we simply must protect male privilege and enshrine invented fears of misandry in the academic landscape. Ugh.'

These women only expect masculinity perceived through feminist 'theory'. Any attempt for a man to defend masculinity, and they bring up the typical privilege bullshit.

ROD
Endangering the well-being of both genders? - Bullshit!!! Anything that comes from academics is always female first.

And as for that feminist - invented fears of misandry in the academic landscape. Antifeminism and anti Feminist is the only way forward for men and boys, there is no other way.

Practical questions:

Anyone know if there is there like a registration fee? And a place to park my car?

It's not far from me, and I'm seriously thinking about going.

Oh yeah...almost forgot: Feministing can kiss my pimply ass.

One thing that concerns me is that they seem to be unaware of relatively recent scientific research such as that presented in Moxon's book. Misandry as a cultural phenomenon is really an outgrowth of the natural prejudice against males that exists in our innate psychologies. Social psychology is really just an 'outcome' of individual psychology.

That the prejudice is innate implies that attempts to address any one or more facets of the problem from a 'here's what's wrong with masculinity' angle, are pretty much wheel-spinning. There is nothing wrong with masculinity. It only seems that way to people (including many MRA's) due to our tendency to "big up" women; this is the source of the modern phenomenon of 'gynocentrism', which causes us to see things from the female point of view. Obviously, if one veiws masculinity with the idea in mind that female ways of handling certain things are 'more functional', then one will at the outset believe masculinity to be flawed, in at least some ways.
