Police target women with 'Ladies Only' CCW class

Story here. Excerpt:

'HAMILTON — As one of the few police departments in the area that offers training for carry-conceal weapons permits, it’s no surprise that Hamilton city police have hit another milestone.

In June, it held its first women-only CCW class, which is proving popular based on the number of enrollees.

“Some ladies called us and said they were interested. We’ve had quite a response,” said Hamilton police Detective Daniel Stevenson.

The current class has around 30 women, up from the typical five to 10 in a co-educational class.

“The ladies told us they felt a little more comfortable in an all-ladies setting. We were just trying to take care of these ladies.”'

... in a men-only class, so can I get one of those, too?

"The ladies told us they felt a little more comfortable in an all-ladies setting."

Funny, if whites said they felt "a little more comfortable" in an all white class, or males said they would feel "a little more comfortable" without any of them darn wominz around, there would be hell to pay, but when it's women their bigotry is actually rewarded with a class all their own!

I can think of a few instances whereby I would feel better if all the students were of the same gender. Political correctness doesn't count when it is women. Equality is only for women.
I propose a brand new mens group. We should call it Rat On a Wheel, R.O.W. for short. The logo would be a rat leaning on a wheel with a cigar in one paw, one paw on the hip, and a big grin on his face! Why? Because the rat stepped off of the wheel! Men only!

Ya know, I don't really feel like there is too much wrong with separate type classes or businesses or whatever.

Maybe there is something warped with my thinking, but I just don't feel like putting the energy into fighting such things.

I suppose a legitimate argument could be made when public money is spent, but I assume people had to pay for these weapons classes so it is really money coming in.

As far as private businesses that want to be 'women only' or 'men only', I have no problem. I am a big believer in supply and demand. If it makes money, by all means go for it. I would not even care if businesses offered 'black only' or 'Jew only' type stuff, I figure it is their prerogative.

People will either be so disgusted with it, that they will not patronize the place and it will go out of business, or people will love it and the place will make a profit.

To use health clubs as an example: If all health clubs became 'women only', the men would have to work out some where, so then a business could prosper by declaring itself to be the only 'men only' club.

What about couples that want to work out together, then a mixed club would be a novelty.

Pretty soon there would be so many types of health clubs and competition for customers that some would have to become more inclusive to broaden there clientele or close down. Which would survive?

I think the situation would take care of itself.

As far as this separate weapons classes for females, they could think of it as a beginner's only class or a class just for Spanish speaking people. Not really meant to be favoring a group, but just makes sense as these types of people probably have the same questions or the same experience level, so it makes the class more efficient to teach. Also it is somewhat of a novelty so people are signing up. That means bringing in money/revenue that the place normally would not get.

But if it continued and all classes became female only, then you could get into my example above. The men would need a class, so they could start a men's only class, pretty soon they would have so many classes that some would not fill up, revenue would decline, and the problem would fix itself.

Anyone agree, or am I totally warped?

PS- female only health clubs have equipment designed especially for women's bodies and 5'8'' and shorter. Men's fitness equipment at all co-ed health clubs are designed for men's bodies and 5'5 and taller. So sometimes separating people is done to maximize efficiency and results. I have no problem with it as people can freely choose where to spend their money, and I feel that business should be able to choose what type of clientele they are going to seek.

I would love to some day open a private school for boy's only, as I feel boys have specific educational needs. Anything wrong with that?

What if a person has no gym nearby except one that excludes him/her due to the person's sex? As for setting up men's only gyms, that may be legal in the US but here in Aus it's illegal - women only is allowed, men only is not. Australia - the classless society.
As for women needing different equipment that's just feminist propaganda. I can't count how many times i (5'10", 230 lb) have been using the entire stack on a bench press machine right after a 5', 90 lb Asian woman has been working out with just the first one or two plates, and i didn't see either of us complaining. Segregationists always have their excuses.

I'm not necessarily a fan of separate type stuff, I just don't see it as a big problem.

I don't think it is fair that a separate health club (or any type of establishment) would be legal for one gender, but not the other. Whatever the law is, it should be the same for everyone. With that being the rule, then if you lived in an area that only had female health clubs, it would seem to be the perfect business opportunity for some one to open up a male only club. Then as I explained in my earlier post, it seems like everything would even-out in the end.

Businesses either make it by appealing to everyone or by appealing to a very specific clientele . Let the free market decide wether a business will make it or not. As long as everyone has equal opportunity, I really don't care much.

On a lighter note about female only health clubs. You guys are not missing out on anything. The only decent women's health club I had in my area closed after about 5 years, as it was not very popular. I had only been there a few times. Now the only women's only clubs I have in my area is CURVES.

CURVES is not for the serious fitness minded as they are mostly patronized by older and out of shape women. It is about 20 pieces of equipment all arranged in a circle in a single room. They do not even have a shower or locker room. I was dragged there by my grandma. Girls my age would not be caught dead there.

As far as equipment being different at 'female only' clubs it is the truth. It was a selling point at each women's only club I have been at. The nautilus machines are definitely made for smaller bodies. The seat to leg position are better proportioned for a woman (no need for a woman to use extra seat pads as many trainers instruct short women to do at other clubs). Also the grips and the position for arm and shoulder type machines are better as women do not have as broad of shoulders and therefore have shorter arms.

I don't doubt that short women and tall men use the same exercise equipment at co-ed clubs without complaining, but everyone would get a better work out if they used machines built for their body size.

I'm sorry that I did not realize that 'men only' health clubs are illegal before I wrote my first post above, that explains a lot of the contempt you guys have for the women only clubs.

Even though I do not have a problem with men/women only type health clubs, I do want to reiterate that I believe that if it legal to have 'women only' then it should be legal to have 'men only'. Everyone should have equal opportunity.

Heck. With false rape/dv/child molestation accusations, not to mention paternity fraud and guaranteed child custody, women already get to carry concealed weapons. The only concealed weapon a guy gets to carry is the knife in his back.
