Naomi Wolf: "Feminism and the scientific evidence about the male Brain"
Article here. Excerpt:
'Feminists understandably have often shied away from scientific evidence that challenges this critique of sex roles. After all, because biology-based arguments about gender difference have historically been used to justify women's subjugation, women have been reluctant to concede any innate difference, lest it be used against them. But, in view of recent scientific discoveries, has feminist resistance to accepting any signs of innate gender difference only created new biases?
The feminist critique, for example, has totally remade elementary-level education, where female decision-makers prevail: the construction of male hierarchies in the schoolyard is often redirected nowadays for fear of "bullying," with boys and girls alike expected to "share" and "process" their emotions. But many educators have begun to argue that such intervention in what may be a hardwired aspect of "boy-ness" can lead to boys' academic underperformance relative to girls, and to more frequent diagnoses of behavioral problems, attention deficit disorder, and so on.'

really?
" biology-based arguments about gender difference have historically been used to justify women's subjugation "
can anyone provide me with an example of that ever having been done?
The way I see it, there are at least three problems with that argument:
1)We have only recently started to learn about biological brain differences, which is the concern with boys here.
2)Women have not been historically subjugated.
3)concerning 'non-brain' differences, women historically having been viewed as physically weak, as well as necessary to bear children, etc, has kept women from doing hard labor, engaging in battle or registering for the draft, or undergoing as much physical punishment as men. In other words, it has been of advantage to them.

Biology only when it helps
Of course, they are free to fall back on "science" when it benefits them. The old "Women are, by nature, more emotional and better for teams so we need to rule the world. Men are more violent so they should fight the wars, be drafted, etc" never ends when women demand to inherit the society men broke their backs to build for them.

I suggest Firefox 3.0.10. If that is what you are using, try IE.
I'm suprised.
I'm frankly surprised anyone in elementary-level education is raising concerns. I'm sure that the situation described here:
"But many educators have begun to argue that such intervention in what may be a hardwired aspect of "boy-ness" can lead to boys' academic underperformance relative to girls, and to more frequent diagnoses of behavioral problems, attention deficit disorder, and so on.'"
...is not a problem at all for the feminist "educators." In fact, I'm sure it's seen as "success" and is probably completely in line with their agenda.
