Faludi on post-9/11 feminism
Article here. Excerpt:
'Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Susan Faludi examined the issue of modern feminism yesterday at the Moritz College of Law.
...
Faludi started her lecture by acknowledging that the feminist movement has made progress by putting more women into higher education and specialty fields like medicine. According to Faludi, women comprise 60 percent of undergraduate and master's degree enrollment.
"You always hears about the firefighters and policemen after 9/11, but you never heard anything about the nurses who were taking care of all the injured people." Berberich said. "That kind of sexism is very subtle and subversive.
...
"Women's issues aren't just women's issues; they're society's issues," Faludi said. "The success of any political realignment in the U.S. has to be based on the success of the feminist agenda."'

Jealous
Faludi can't handle the fact that heroes are almost always men. When tragedy strikes, its men who use logic, courage, and bravery to save lives. Sure, nurses helped out, but the Firemen and Policemen were the ones who risked their lives -- regrettably, many of them perished.
Your post sums it up
Your post sums it up perfectly, they risked their lives.
No nurses risked their lives.
We never thank the people who did the difficult job of clearing up the area either (even though some of those did die in accidents). But those weren't acts of bravery.
For that matter, why does she pick the obviously female heavy profession of nurses over the DOCTORS (a more balanced profession) who were helping the victims?
Why? Because she is a sexist
Always has been.
That is what feminism means. Preferential treatment and power for women before men.
Thats fine. But put that game on a level playing field and see how it plays out.
It doesn't. And that is why the girls want to metaphorically (and otherwise) hit from the "women's tees" all the time.
Remember - they cut the balls off of stud thoroughbreds so they can run and be competitive with the females.
They have too much power and speed and stamina IN MOST CASES, and outcompete the females, otherwise. Another way of "equalizing" the abilities is with weight. They make the males carry far more poundage than the females.
Feminism is the same program, but for humans.

Couldnt the same thing also be said??
about the men's movement?
Of course it could.
"Men's issues aren't just men's issues; they're society's issues,"
"The success of any political realignment in the U.S. has to be based on the success of the masculist agenda."'

What Does Any of That Have To Do With Gender
"You always hears about the firefighters and policemen after 9/11, but you never heard anything about the nurses who were taking care of all the injured people." Berberich said. "That kind of sexism is very subtle and subversive.
Whats any of this have to do with sexism? There are both male and female firefighters, and nurses. When more nurses start running to certain death in an attempt to save others then people will write more about them.
