Story here. Excerpt:
'INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Logan Young has been playing baseball with the boys for nine years, and she and her parents don't think that should change now that she's in high school.
The 14-year-old and her family have filed a federal lawsuit over an Indiana High School Athletic Association rule that prohibits the Bloomington South freshman from trying out for the high school baseball team because she is female.
"In this day and age, a girl should have the opportunity to participate on an equal footing with the boys in high school sports and the IHSAA precludes that," Tae Sture, one of the family's attorney's, said Monday.'
Do you suppose I can try out for a spot on the local women's softball team and get a fair shake at that?

Softball......
...was designed for girls. The ball is larger, which makes it easier to hit and catch. The field is smaller and throwing under handed prevents elbow and shoulder injuries. A pitch thrown under handed is also easier to hit because it does not have the same velocity as an over handed pitch.
Letting girls join the baseball team will inevitably prevent some boys from playing because of the limited number of positions available. Can these boys join the softball team? Essentially, it gives girls more options. They have the choice of softball or baseball.
What happens if a boy slides into third base and makes contact with the female position player? Would he become chastised for 'hitting' a girl too hard? Baseball does have a certain level of contact. What happens if the pitcher accidentally hits the girl with a fastball? Girls on the team would also give the victim industry a new target. I can see it now -- after practice all the boys must attend a sexual harassment seminar.
My nephew is in wrestling.
My nephew is in wrestling. There are 2 girls on his team. They, the girls, have never won a match. Two of his friends want to join but can't because no openings. Also, the boys cannot do certain holds on the girls...how fair is that? And yet, these girls still don't win. And believe me, the boys are not happy about it but pretend to be.
I wonder
If they never win, how does staying on the wrestling team benefit them in anyway? It certainly doesn't benefit the wrestling team. I just don't get it.
Another Thought
Lets say MLB one day becomes Co-Ed, would women really want to watch other women play baseball with men?
I go to a lot of Yankee games and there are already a ton of women and girls in the seats.
