Obama Transition Team Asks NOW For Cabinet Input
Story here. Excerpt:
'Early indications that men might dominate the hierarchy of Obama administration have women’s groups worried, even as a growing chorus of advisers reportedly pushes Hillary Rodham Clinton for secretary of state [sic].
...
The Obama transition team asked NOW to send suggestions of qualified female candidates, according to Gandy.
...
The backlash from women’s groups may have pushed Summers off the short list for Treasury secretary. Only 33 women have held Cabinet or Cabinet-level appointments, according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. Bill Clinton holds the record for female nominees, appointing 14 during his two terms in the White House. He’s followed by George W. Bush, who put eight women in top-level posts.'

N.O.W. Scripts Input for Obama
Kim Gandy and her dogma queens over at N.O.W. are not only "encouraging" their zombie membership to write to Obama, but they have on their web site an e-mail forwarding feature to make sure that N.O.W. is recognized as the source.
In addition to encouraging, they provide a list of Talking Points which are basically the core of N.O.W.s political agenda. Here they are -
Talking Points for Your Input to Obama:
(In addition to supporting NOW's call for an Obama cabinet and administration that reflects the diversity of our country, here are the issues at the top of MY agenda for what I hope proves to be the most feminist, progressive administration ever to lead our country)
* As you plan for the economic recovery of this nation, please keep in mind that women are disproportionately affected due to wage disparity and their segregation into lower paying occupations and jobs. You can help lessen the impact and speed up women's recovery by supporting strong equal pay enforcement laws and helping to close the wage gap.
* Juggling work and family responsibilities is a significant challenge for women. I ask you to expand family leave to cover all workers and put the issue of paid leave back on the national agenda, in addition to a minimum number of paid sick days for all workers.
* Repair the shredded social safety net, and give women a clear path to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
* Every woman, man and child in the U.S. deserves to have access to quality health care. We need to achieve universal healthcare and it must include coverage for the full range of reproductive health services.
* Protect and advance women's reproductive rights, starting with: repeal the Global Gag Rule, restore and increase international family planning funds, and halt the taxpayer giveaway to ineffective, dangerous abstinence-only sex education programs.
* As for the U.S. Supreme Court, I am counting on you to appoint justices who recognize and respect women's rights.
* Develop an effective Title IX equal education enforcement system for every level of education.
* Guarantee basic human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, and strengthen laws banning discrimination based on race, color, gender, age or disability.
* Include crimes based on gender, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity as hate crimes under federal law and mandate that law enforcement collect and report data on such crimes.
* Advocate for a guarantee of gender equality in the U.S. Constitution. Push forward on the ratification of CEDAW, the United Nations treaty to end sex discrimination.
* Continue your leadership on ending violence against women and girls here and around the globe, including making VAWA enforcement and increased funding a priority.
•Please honor your campaign promise to end the war in Iraq and begin bringing our troops home as soon as possible. Ensure that the Veteran's Administration has the capacity and expertise to assist the significant numbers of returning wounded, and address the special needs of military women.

Hmm
I didn't know there was a wage gap, I thought it was due mainly to woman's choices in a flexible schedule, job satisfaction, fringe benefits, work less hours, take more time off of work, account for less than 5% of job related deaths, and a few other.
