Story here. Excerpt:
'LINCOLN, Neb. - A 17-year-old boy left by his mother at an Omaha hospital is the 30th child abandoned under Nebraska's safe-haven law, state officials said.
The boy from the Omaha area was left at Creighton University Medical Center on Monday morning, said Todd Landry, director of children and family services for the Department of Health and Human Services.
The state was still investigating the case and additional details were not available, he said.'

Avoid college loans
So she couldn't stand the 'little bastard' (who I am sure towers over her) and had to get rid of him as a last-ditch effort to save her sanity (hell he was probably a meth dealer, too!) by driving him to NE and dumping him into the loving arms of the state.
I have another interpretation: She wanted to not have her income count when assessing the kid for college loans and grants, so she dumps him. For the rest of his 17th year he is a ward of the state. At 18 he is free and officially has no parents. Ta-da! He is now qualified for loans.
Great idea. Wish my folks had had this option when I was growing up. The people of NE are really getting suckered by this little scam.
