Rape victim studying science of memory after man dies serving wrongful sentence
Story here. Excerpt:
'Michele Mallin said she was "100 percent sure" when she identified Timothy Brian Cole as the man who raped her.
Her resolve never wavered, Ms. Mallin said, until she learned last May that DNA testing had invalidated her 1985 identification. The revelation came nearly nine years after Mr. Cole died at 39 in a Texas prison from an asthma attack.
...
The memory process works well when someone is shown a face repeatedly. But when the exposure is episodic, "we end up with the gist" of a person's looks, said Dr. Gary Wells, a nationally known expert on eyewitness testimony and a professor of psychology at Iowa State University.
...
She said she believes that Lubbock police and prosecutors manipulated her by repeatedly describing Mr. Cole as "a low-life hood." The Army veteran had a misdemeanor arrest record in Lubbock for gun and marijuana possession.
...
From everything she now knows, Ms. Mallin said, the law should not allow prosecutions based on eyewitness identifications without corroboration.
"Obviously, we're human," she said. "We make mistakes."'

It's amazing how wimin are quick to excuse themselves of any 'mistake'.
Admittedly, she suffered a horrible ordeal, if she's being honest. Still, a wrongfully convicted person was sent prison due to her 'mistake,' and had died while there.

Hey, she seems like an ally
She is now AGAINST eye witness testimony without corroboration as a standard for conviction in rape cases. THAT IS HUGE! If a movement grows around the notion then wrongful convictions will be meaningfully decreased and that mans death will not be meaningless.
MEN DIE
"From everything she now knows, Ms. Mallin said, the law should not allow prosecutions based on eyewitness identifications without corroboration."
Well isn't that educational. Is there anything else we can learn from women's world? How about "woMEN stuDIEs"?
"Obviously we're human, we have mistakes"
An innocent man died in jail... and it's written off as a "mistake"???
Is that all Falsely Accused men have to look forward? Waved out of life with "it's a mistake"???

She is now converted, we should welcome women like her
Yes, I agree completely that the death of this mas poor innocent man is a FAR worse tragedy then the rape this woman suffered and deserves a much greater outcry from the community. A good man died needlessly in the name of a false ideology driven witch hunt that seeks to paint all penis bearing member of society with the same brush. That's truly an awful thing.
But this woman seems to have woken up to the truth about the way the system works and she should not be persecuted for being the victim of it herself.
She said she believes that Lubbock police and prosecutors manipulated her by repeatedly describing Mr. Cole as "a low-life hood." The Army veteran had a misdemeanor arrest record in Lubbock for gun and marijuana possession.
The cops were lazy in this case and railroaded an innocent man into prison where he died because they did not want to take the time and make the effort to seek the truth. The woman WAS raped, but the cops failed her. This is EXACTLY why I am opposed to offender registries of ANY kind. Many people say that the registries SHOULD exist but be limited to police use only and not be public. While, this case shows that the outcome of that approach would be even more tragic then the vigilantly justice public registries create. Cops know eye witness accounts are unreliable, they'd use the registry to randomly pick a sex offender to attribute to every sex crime and more and more innocent men would be carted off to jail to die. Private registries just allow the public to live in denial and the media to ignore the suffering altogether.
This woman appears to be of the opinion that it is better that the real rapist still lives free then for a random person to have died in the name of justice in this crime. She's a rare person. She knows that despite what happened to her she still has every day of the rest of her life to life and love and enjoy where as the man who was FALSELY sent to prison as a rapist does not. She seems to know that she is partially responsible for a mans death. She seems to know that she is now as bad as the man who raped her by bearing false witness against an innocent man. But she also realizes that there are very serious flaws in the justice system that are also to blame for this tragedy. She is not 100% to blame and she should not have to accept persecution as though she were. The justice system failed EVERYONE in this case with horrific results. Let's use our efforts to effect REAL changes to the system as opposed to persecuting a woman who has suffered through TWO tragedies.
Want to keep innocent men out of jail, CHANGE the system that sent them to jail in the first place. Villainizing this woman is not effective in promoting the reforms that need to occur to truly make this mans death have meaning.

Don't loose sight of the fact that she may have been manipulated and pressurized by the police in this matter. From what she said this looks to be the case. She may have made a mistake but the police where malicious.
We Can't Hold It Against Her
I can't agree that she thinks of herself as no better than her rapist, nor that she is no better. This isn't chivalry talking here, nor the big book of excuses, but I think we have to cut this woman some slack. She was likely shaken up emotionally from what happened to her, and was determined to put the perpetrator behind bars. In this state of vulnerability, she likely became indoctrinated against poor Mr. Cole. She's also living evidence that the police do not care who pays for a crime, provided that it looks like they're doing their job. Now she's speaking out against the main cause of innocent men going to prison, all the while, showing the world that someone can be wrong about who they thought committed a crime against them.

Real Men Don't Take Abuse!
The "Womyn" Rape Racket
1. Woman accuses wrong man
2. Man suffers in jail losing his entire life
3. Later when falsely accusing men gets bad press, women (being social creatures that always have to stay IN style) say they made a "mistake."
4. Real men want woman to pay for her lies
5. Manginas come out of the closet and fell sorry for lying woman who said she was "100% positive" and somehow blame is shifted from woman to "the system" alone and thus nothing is done.
6. Woman finds some way to GO PUBLIC with incident in order to capitalize off of it and get what woman always crave,........attention.
7. Repeat cycle and rinse.
Any questions?
