Two boys abandoned under Nebraska's `safe haven' law

Story here. Excerpt:

'OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- The first children to be abandoned at hospitals by caregivers under a new Nebraska "safe haven" law are a teen and a tween.
...
Saturday, a 44-year-old woman said her 15-year-old nephew had behavioral issues that were too much for her. A mother dropped her 11-year-old boy at another hospital that same day. She claimed she could no longer care for the child.'

Now they toss them into the loving arms of the state to have their fate decided by bureaucrats.

Nebraska is essentially throwing in the towel regarding children. They are basically saying they can't ensure the well-being of children in their state so rather than deal with lawsuits against CPS or whatnot, they are allowing people to just abandon their kids rather than "deal with" them, whatever that means.

Its actually quite convenient. Pick up some groceries, hit the Burger King drive through, gas up the car, and if there's time left, unload your teenage son at the hospital.

What the F**k did these women tell their sons?

"Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out?"

Maybe they promised the boys ice cream than proceeded to floor the gas peddle as they were getting out of the car.

I can see these mothers screeching away so they won't miss their Botox treatment.

Another example of the imminent collapse of society.

my little sister was a terror growing up,
so we all used different methods to get her to behave.

she was scared sh*&^less of the big buck hanging on the wall.
so as a big bro i would casually mention it and boy would she straighten up.

so now people in the great state of nebraska can scare their children
in a similar way by saying things like

" if you don't behave we will turn you over to the government bad men".

scaring small children with threats of permanent government intervention.
where in history have i heard of that before?
oh how the mighty have fallen.

maybe they can hit the feds up for some matching funds to help
run the potential mega-program of disposable children. lots of jobs can be created.

maybe threaten to let lesbians adopt them, they are always wanting kids. that'll teach 'em
to behave.

i'd be willing to bet checking to see if the dad wants them isn't even on he docket.
now i see why abortion is so popular.

more proof that you really are known by the fruit you bear.

Long story short, was abused, spent 3 years in institutions up to 16 yr. of age in NY state. Those two different places I was in weren't the best places for all children. On the other hand, if a parent is so fragile that they would take the step to drop their child off at a hospital due to extreme frustration; well then that might not be a bad idea. It depends on the system that they use to deal with those children, and the people that administer, as well as operate the system as to whether or not it is beneficial or not. Tried to access the link but couldn't find any story on it. I was interested if they presented any background info on these two stories.

I live in Nebraska and watched the Unicameral debats this bill last year. Most of you may not be surprised to learn that the original wording would have only allowed "Mothers" and "Women" to drop of children. However, this language was dropped in order to get the bill passed.

I understand from people living back there that they did not intend for the law to allow abandoning kids that were so old. Now you can abandon them all the way up to 18 years of age.

In other states, it is a "no questions asked" kind of arrangement. But in this case, the questions may come from the kid. Like "what kind of a Mom are you?".

I find it difficult to believe that men will be allowed to drop kids off. No other state has the provision that I am aware of.
