US university offers course for men to 'deconstruct toxic masculinities'

Article here. Excerpt:

'A university in the United States has begun offering classes in “constructive male allyship,” providing a space where male students are able to “question and deconstruct toxic masculinities.”

Duke University, based in the city of Durham, North Carolina, held its first Learning Community session last week. The women’s centre has organised a nine-week series of seminars, as part of the Duke Men’s Project.

And, with sexual harassment and sexism remaining hot topics on American university campuses, the university has created the seminar series under the banner of the Men’s Project.

“Our purpose is twofold: to foster constructive male allyship, and to question and deconstruct toxic masculinities,” the Men’s Project says on its website.

“We also understand how masculinity in its normative form alienates most – if not all – men, and recognise the part normative masculinity plays in alienating men and reproducing violence.'

Did anyone else notice that this is at the same university where three lacrosse players were falsely accused of rape by the murderess Crystal Gail Mangum? The same campus that wholly turned against these boys before there was even any evidence brought against them? (Ultimately, they were acquitted because Crystal's lie fell apart under scrutiny)

LOL. Seems to me they should be working to deconstruct their own toxic stereotypes. As it stands now, this school is in the absolute worst position to be speaking about this topic. SMDH.

P.S. Perhaps they should change their name to David Duke University, seeing that they love spreading senseless hate.

I had to look it up. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that their idea of 'constructive male allyship' is 'no male views another male as an ally.' Divide and conquer.

They could start by holding the event outdoors, perhaps in the woods. After all, any buildings were likely designed by men, built by men, plumbed by men, and wired by men. And lawns were likely built by men and maintained by men.

Then they could eliminate any subjects founded by men: algebra, biology, calculus, law, medicine, history, math, philosophy, poetry, and so on. That would take care of about 90% of toxic masculinity.

Or they could just shut down the university, since the idea of a university was one some toxic male came up with.

Just trying to be helpful.
