UK: School bans girls from wearing skirts to stop male teachers from 'feeling uncomfortable'

'Headteacher Sarah Pashley says all pupils will now be expected to wear approved trousers bearing the school logo bought from designated suppliers.
...
Ms Pashley said: “We have a very simple school uniform, which we enforce strictly.
“On one occasion when a male member of staff challenged a female student on her skirt length, she retorted, ‘You shouldn’t be looking at my legs’.
“The male member of staff was understandably uncomfortable with this and reported it to me immediately. Male staff asked me to share this incident with the governing body when uniform was reviewed.”
...
Another parent claimed that female staff at the school fail to set a good example. She said: “Some female staff wear high heels, short skirts and low-cut blouses.
Are they going to be wearing trousers?”
...
Some parents even claim that preventing girls wearing skirts is a breach of their human rights.
...
Campaign for Real Education chairman Chris McGovern backed the parents saying: “This is a daft and unfair decision that discriminates against girls.'

So can the boys...
... wear shorts now too? Or could they always? I'd like to know. But very short skirts are as revealing (or can be) as a less-than-"modest" style of swimsuit. Such isn't suitable for school-wear, either for boys or girls. Some skirts can effectively be bikini bottoms, some shorts not much more than Speedos.
Likewise the teachers need to be aware that dressing in "clubwear" isn't professional. Knees and elbows for both sexes should be covered, barring unbearably hot weather and no A/C. Even then, the accomodation ought to be limited.
Showing off one's body in deliberately revealing clothing at work or school venues (schools are both) is a kind of sexual harassment, provided it isn't part and parcel of the context (beach-based business employees, nightclub employees, etc.). Schools don't fall into that category, and neither do typical workplaces.
Short skirts are a weapon - and always have been
My wife tells a story of her best friend, who was quite well endowed at school, and how she used a badge that read "stop staring at my breasts" pinned to her shirt, and a VERY short skirt as ways to punish certain male teachers she didn't like. She would deliberately hoik up the skirt shorter when she entered the class. If he looked and said anything, she would loudly shout at him to stop looking at her legs and/or breasts, loud enough to embarrass him. If he didn't look, she'd take every opportunity to walk in front of him, with her mates laughing as he obviously didn't look. That was 20 odd years ago, it hasn't changed.
I currently live with a step daughter who is 15 and often parades around in very revealing clothes (skin tight dancing shorts, etc.) I did try and raise this subject, but was told 'to stop looking' - and promptly felt like a massive pervert. It was a weapon 20 years ago, it's a weapon today.
can't stand it. i just can't
can't stand it. i just can't stand it...!
Hostile sexuality
It's appalling behavior, perhaps best described as hostile sexuality.
This story has legs..
Thanks for the inspiration. I am going to make this a point at next staff meeting. After I have been laughed at and disparaged by the gals, I will ask them since this idea is so ridiculous they surely won't mind if I make a point of emailing security for tape whenever I see an infraction by women (or men). How can they not agree? [NOT]
