The Knockout Game -- NYT/NPR Say No Big Deal

'The "knockout game" -- and the media underreporting of it -- combines the breakdown of the family with the media's condescending determination to serve as a public relations bureau for blacks. The "game" is a dare in which a young man -- all the perps appear to be male people of color, mostly blacks -- tries to literally knock out an innocent bystander with one blow. Both National Public Radio and The New York Times say these reports of the "knockout game" being widespread are overblown and do not represent a trend. Really?

So why is this happening? Look to the family.
As then-presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama told a mostly black congregation: "Children who grow up without a father are five times more likely to live in poverty and commit crime; nine times more likely to drop out of schools and 20 times more likely to end up in prison. They are more likely to have behavioral problems or run away from home or become teenage parents themselves. And the foundations of our community are weaker because of it." In 1960, only 5 percent of children were born into single-parent households. Today it's 40 percent, with nearly 75 percent of black children born to single mothers.
"Dear Father, Dear Son," my latest book, is about the importance of fathers -- even gruff, tough ones like my Marine dad who was raised in Jim Crow South -- in instilling the values of right and wrong, and of empathy for others. Kids from homes with good values don't go around knocking people out.'

It's more about father absence than skin color
I agree with the article's author on two fronts: He's right that the MSM in the US seeks actively to avoid full reporting of black-on-white assaults even when it's clear race was a big part of the assailant's motive. However notice you don't hear much about black-on-Latino or vice-versa racially-motivated assaults, yet anyone in the LAPD can tell you they happen all the time. Also, how about assaults on ethnic Asians, too, by whomever? Etc., etc. It seems the MSM only sees race-motivated assaults if they're white-on-black, or presumably so. This is a serious integrity flaw with the "Fourth Estate" here in the US.
The second thing I concur on though is that race-motivations aside, it's true black ppl had a lot more reason to be very angry abt their lot in life during Jim Crow, but did groups of young black men go around assaulting others seemingly at random, with or without the victim's ethnicity a modifying factor? No. So what's changed? Just as the author's written, dad's been all but chased out of the black family. Gov't policies in the '70s did a lot to do that and contribute to it to this day.
Something's gotta change before this can turn around. Otherwise, it'll only get worse.
MSM also promotes racial division
The mainstream media promotes racial as well as gender division through selective reporting. The Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman saga is a prime example of this. The unfortunate result is hostility by blacks toward whites, even those who are innocent of racial bias. There may be many more examples of white men and black men cooperating and getting along, and of fairness between the races, but this doesn't get promoted very much, if at all.
