Bizarre: Condom ad indulges in plenty of boys-bashing-fathers'-groins imagery to deter men from becoming dads

Story here. Excerpt:

'From the opening shot of the scorched sausages (subtle) to the closing shot of the man who just wants to listen to music but ends up hitting a note beyond the castrati range, the ad tells one message: Children are little menaces whose every move jeopardizes mens’ manhood.

Kids, you see, are nothing but burdens. Little terrorists. Monsters of the mid-section.

The ad actually works against itself, though. The men in it are family men who apparently wanted kids. Hint: They have more than one kid. They’re barbecuing or they’re getting home from work or getting on the computer. The life they have and enjoy is enjoyable in large part because they have kids. What father hasn’t come home from the office, seen a mess of kids and toys scattered around the driveway and yard, and both hated and loved the sight at the same time? Yeah, it’s a mess, but the mess shows that your kid is having a good time with other kids who are having a good time. That’s what neighborhood life is about. It’s why we build schools and parks and pools and have soccer and baseball leagues everywhere.'

First, all the kids doing the groin-bashing are boys. Gee, and girl-children never jump up and down, play "hop on pop", or do anything of the sort that could put their dad's genitalia in danger? And the piles of messes? Umm, I have both seen and been one of the many kids that make messes around the house. Nothing, I mean nothing, I've ever seen (or done) has looked that bad. Really, this is more an ad in favor of teaching *all* parents some parenting and child-disciplining skills, if nothing else.

But finally, and here's the kicker: the ad is making the kids (again, all boys) out to be *the problem* -- i.e., the great risk to men who have kids. The kids are not the risk to men who have kids. It is the legal system paired with a walkin'-shoes-wearin' missus that is *THE* greatest danger to any man who wants to have kids.

This ad should not be portraying kids as a danger to men's privates. It should be portraying the corrupt and complicit "family court" system that seeks to render good fathers into indentured servants if they make the mistake of not giving very careful thought into the matter of becoming fathers -- and taking the necessary precautions to be sure it doesn't happen, whatever that looks like.

It really speaks to the general immaturity of people that a commercial with four groin shots is considered "hilarious". I stopped laughing at that when I was ten. I wonder when ad makers will start selling products by making montages of women's genitals being made into punching bags for people's sadistic enjoyment. This ad was beyond retarded and trust me it has destroyed any motivation I ever had and ever will have to buy durex.
