Eyewitness Records Santa Ana Officer Shoot, Kill Unarmed Homeless Man
Story here. Excerpt:
'SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — An eyewitness recorded cellphone video of a Santa Ana police officer shoot and kill an unarmed 22-year-old homeless man at a shopping center earlier this week.
The witness, who wished to remain unidentified, was standing in the parking lot of the Harbor Place Shopping Center on South Harbor Boulevard around 3 p.m. Tuesday when he said he filmed a confrontation in front of Jugo’s La Tropicana between an officer, later identified as a 13-year veteran, and victim Hans Kevin Arellano.
“She exited her patrol car, gun drawn, and asked the gentlemen to get on the ground. The gentlemen didn’t get on the ground, he was still inside the restaurant. She asked again. The man then exited the restaurant, and as he was exiting the restaurant, he said, ‘What are you gonna do, b—-?’ About a second later, she shot him in the chest,” he said.'

Homeless male = disposable
Why bother waiting for a "reason"? Police could just go around shooting homeless men and be done with the pretense of finding an excuse. In this case, in addition to being a homeless male, he need merely have been rude and disrespectful. Anyone else would have just been arrested, though probably violently. In this case, rather than facing a summary offense charge, he was summarily executed by an official of the state.
I hear tell this happened a lot in places like revolutionary China, Nazi Germany, and Cambodia under Pol Pot. Seems like a tradition we're following in lock-step, as I doubt the upstanding professional law enforcer will ever see jail, though because she was caught incontrovertibly doing something "distasteful", at least she'll probably get fired. Or suspended for a month, anyway.
Let this be a warning, men: get homeless and be nasty to a cop (esp. a female one), and you're dead.
Women in authority, guns and males
This OP along with Matt's comment reminds me of the debate about arming teachers with guns. I am surprised the issue has not been discussed at MRA sites.
Sorry for steering things away from the OP, but I do think it's related as it has to do with women in authority and guns and the risk to males.

The principal states that parents would be relieved that their children are safe by knowing the teachers are armed with guns. Really? as a mom of two boys, nothing would worry me more than knowing the teacher could shoot my kids at any time.
If teachers are armed, what gender of students do you think will be shot at? We are just coming off the Travon Martin case, and then we have stories like the OP about a female officer who had a gun, was pissed and disrespected by a man; and we already know that schools and teachers generally don't value boys.
I guess the plan already got shot down (how's that for pun) after the school spent the money on it. But if we do get closer to arming teachers, I hope MRA will take a serious look at what this could mean for boys and their safety at school.
