Antiquated indeed
A "blood ritual" not unique to Judaism. It's found in Islam and other religions and the secular parts of societies also. Doctors who perform circumcisions may not be ritualizing it but are nonetheless rationalizing it to capitalize off it.
Religious or not, there always seems to be some excuse ppl come up with to cut off parts of boys' genitalia. To say it's a pathology in societies that condone it or encourage it is at once accurate but at the same time, an oversimplification. If it were quite that simple, it'd be a bit more obvious to rational people just how irrational the practice is. The whole thing is rooted in centuries-old cognitive dissonance. It's not going to be easy to see real change effected even among non-religious groups of people who are still living in a hypnotic fog around this topic, but progress is inevitable. Circumcision's days are numbered. Exactly what the number is, dunno. But it's on the way out.
