'In the wake of the alleged suicide of an IT employee in Bangalore, Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) took up the cause of male suicides on Sunday when it held a candlelight vigil in the City demanding that the ‘draconian gender-biased’ dowry-related laws be rectified.

The NGO dedicated to men’s rights, distressed husbands and their families, alleges that over 60,000 men (twice the number of women) commit suicide each year due to fake allegations in 498A cases or due to harassment from their wives and relatives.

In a country that’s deemed absolutely the worst place in the world for women to live, the very notion of men claiming to be the real victims of the system, to put it kindly, beggars belief. Even more so when men’s rights groups anoint themselves ‘the martyrs of marriage,’ asserting that it is men that suffer most in dowry cases which they say are biased solely in favour of the fairer sex. This, at a time when NCRB data estimates that a bride is burned every 90 minutes in this country.

Still, while SIFF’s data interpretation is highly contentious. Their concerns, however, are very legit. Almost every member of the AP SIFF that congregates at Public Gardens every week is anticipating or already fighting a legal battle with their spouse. Each of them has a horror story to tell — of false accusations, nights spent in jail, mothers and sisters arrested, jobs lost, passports confiscated, police abuse, costly expenses, custody battles and lives put on hold, while trials prolong endlessly.'

Are you saying that systemic gender discrimination is, in fact, a zero sum equation? That there can be only one “real” victim? Are you saying that men can’t simultaneously have issues, alongside women? That some areas of government can’t discriminate against men while others discriminate against men? Or are you suggesting that this group made such a claim, in which case, it should prove difficult for you to state your source.

Or are you reacting to men getting some attention, in areas that favor women, because you feel your power is being threatened? Or are these activists just a bunch of man-hating bulldykes woman-hating Neanderthals?

Why is it gender ideologues toss the very arguments they’ve used to justify their positions, and start using the very tactics used against them, as soon as they become inconvenient?
