Florida judge approves birth certificate listing three parents

Story here. Excerpt:

'(Reuters) - A Florida judge has approved the adoption of a 22-month-old baby girl that will list three people as parents on her birth certificate -- a married lesbian couple and a gay man.

The decision ends a two-year paternity fight between the couple and a friend of the women who donated his sperm to father the child but later sought a larger role in the girl's life.

The ruling means the child's birth certificate will include a biological father and both women as parents in an unusual arrangement approved recently by a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge.

The women, Maria Italiano, 43, and Cher Filippazzo, 38, had made several unsuccessful attempts to become parents using fertility clinics.
...
Under the judge's decision, the two women will have sole parental rights, although Gerina will be allowed to visit the child. He will not be expected to provide child support.'

Wow.. what really jumps out here is no C/S is part of it. Maybe the lesbian cpl didn't pursue that but that's hard to believe, given that from their POV he was going back on his "deal" w/ them (though what exactly he was hoping to get from it himself I cannot imagine).

I wouldn't imagine the last chapter of this story is written just yet.

Until this lesbian couple breaks ups, dissolves their union, or whatever you call a divorce in this situation. Once that occurs, he will be on the hook as the biological father to provide.

The women, Maria Italiano, 43, and Cher Filippazzo, 38, had made several unsuccessful attempts to become parents using fertility clinics.

This shows that women CAN'T have kids on their own. God must intervene to create a child. No two women can do it. Thus, let's keep marriage and child bearing the way GOD wants it - as he intended and made the human body to create it.

I'm guessing the women had troubles conceiving because they were older. The fertility of women starts dropping at around 27.

"We believe the best interest for Emma is for him to have a role in her life, but not as a parent," she said. "The role is this is mommy's good friend who helped your moms have you because they wanted you so badly."

Of course, that's a lie, which the child will eventually uncover. The "sperm donor" is the father, not "mommy's good friend."

IMHO, putting two mommies on the birth certificate is also a lie. The child has one mother and one father. If a second mother adopts the child, that should be documented elsewhere.

The birth certificate should state the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about a child's birth because the child--all of us--has a right to know the truth.
