Malaysia: Men 'muscle' in on women-only parking bays

Story here. Excerpt:

'PETALING JAYA - Parking bays at shopping malls demarcated for female drivers are being used by inconsiderate male drivers and shoppers.

Despite the "For Ladies Only" sign prominently displayed and the pillars painted in bright pink, the men are blatantly parking their vehicles at these bays, which are reserved for lone female drivers or women who are accompanied by their young ones.

Women with male companions cannot park at these bays.

A 15-minute survey by Sunday Star at one mall found that 14 of 20 cars entering the parking area had male drivers or men accompanying women drivers.

When security guards advised them to park elsewhere, the standard replies were: "It is only for a little while", "It is rarely used during office hours", and "I'm in a hurry, did not see the signboard".'

Rosa Parks-level? Maybe not. But it's the same idea. It'll be piece by piece until eventually... who knows...

...until we have women-only cities.

Men will be allowed in if accompanied by a woman - preferably on a leash. We'll be able to work in the service sectors - cleaning, fixing, serving - as long as we stay in the demarcated zones.

Unless we're married or under age, of course, in which case our owners will be able to take us with them when they go shopping.

Then, when we're done, we'll all pile onto the few 'male' buses and travel out to the burbs where we're allowed to live in squalor.

Oh yeah, I can see it now.

"which are reserved for lone female drivers or women who are accompanied by their young ones."

Don't men sometimes go to a mall accompanied by small children? And why do "lone women" need special spots? Because they're special?

It does have a "back of the parking lot" feel to it, as if men aren't good enough to park in the front where the good spots are. As Matt points out, these men are right follow in Rosa Parks' footsteps.

Are you mad, insane???

Any man who takes a young child to a shopping centre these days is just one small misunderstanding away from a paedophile charge. Doesn't matter if they are your kids or not - it's akin to walking into an airport with a gun hidden somewhere on your body and no license to carry it.

I had to take my 7 year old swimming last week, he's a step-son and not the same skin colour as me at all. We arrived together, we played together, and then (during a game where he was pretending to be a ball and I was throwing him around) he started shouting "Leave the ball alone!" loudly, in fun.

The hostility and instant attention I received from the (mostly female) crowd and the (mostly male) lifeguards would have been a thing of rare beauty to see, had it not be quite so intimidating. No less than three mothers came over, glaring at me, to ask him if he was okay.

So no, in that future, there will be NO men allowed with kids alone.

After all, it would be like leaving your 1 week old baby to be sat by a hungry rottweiler, right?
