Ann Romney: Women have it harder
Ann Romney made a stirring speech tonight at the RNC Convention. It was, overall, an effective speech. But alas, it seems putting men down in some way just seems to be a requirement of political figures either in or aspiring to office, either directly or by proxy. I have no doubt Mrs. Romney believes every word she spoke but also that her husband does too, or at least supports her saying it.
Just once in this modern era I'd like to hear a major political speech made and not have it pander to feminist sentiments and/or display out and out anti-male bigotry. Can you just imagine a male politician making statements similar to those Ann Romney made tonight about women and it not being a sure-fire rocket-sled ride into electoral irrelevance?
Speech transcript here. Excerpt:
"And if you listen carefully, you’ll hear the women sighing a little bit more than the men. It’s how it is, isn’t it?
It’s the moms who always have to work a little harder, to make everything right.
It’s the moms of this nation — single, married, widowed — who really hold this country together. We’re the mothers, we’re the wives, we’re the grandmothers, we’re the big sisters, we’re the little sisters, we’re the daughters.
You know it’s true, don’t you?
You’re the ones who always have to do a little more.
You know what it’s like to work a little harder during the day to earn the respect you deserve at work and then come home to help with that book report which just has to be done.
You know what those late night phone calls with an elderly parent are like and the long weekend drives just to see how they’re doing.
You know the fastest route to the local emergency room and which doctors actually answer the phone when you call at night.
You know what it’s like to sit in that graduation ceremony and wonder how it was that so many long days turned into years that went by so quickly.
You are the best of America.
You are the hope of America.
There would not be an America without you.
Tonight, we salute you and sing your praises.
I’m not sure if men really understand this, but I don’t think there’s a woman in America who really expects her life to be easy. In our own ways, we all know better!"

Lesser of evils
Seems that at this point in western history, male voters simply have to pick the lesser of evils when going to the polls. Hopefully one day we'll have candidates that hear and understand our issues. At the moment, they're just plain ignoring us or worse yet, know about us and are indifferent anyway.
I won't pick a lesser of two evils
To me, both sides wrong men in horrible, though different ways. Whether it's the republicans locking up score of men in prison via the war on drugs and 3 strikes laws, funding of prisons, emphasis on war, refusing to help returning veterans with mental problems, or opposing sex work, or it's the democrat's misandry, mistreatment of the falsely accused, battered men, etc. etc., I won't support either of them. We do not *have* to support either. I will vote either libertarian or green, or not at all.
