School Accused of Putting Autistic Boy in Duffel Bag

Article hee. Excerpt:

'LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A 9-year-old autistic boy who misbehaved at school was stuffed into a duffel bag and the drawstring pulled tight, according to his mother, who said she found him wiggling inside as a teacher's aide stood by.

The mother of fourth-grader Christopher Baker said her son called out to her when she walked up to him in the bag Dec. 14. The case has spurred an online petition calling for the firing of school employees responsible.

"He was treated like trash and thrown in the hallway," Chris' mother, Sandra Baker, said Thursday. She did not know how exactly how long he had been in the bag, but probably not more than 20 minutes.'

This bothers me for several reasons. First and foremost, I am studying to be a teacher and I am simply astounded whenever I hear of people as irresponsible as this being employed in the realm of child care and education.

Second, my niece is autistic. If I was aware of anyone ever treating my niece this way, I would ensure legal action was taken against them.

Third, this bothers me as an MRA. It's pretty obvious that a teacher wouldn't even fathom trying to do this to a female student. Yet, it seems teachers think it's okay to treat boys like crap. Then they wonder why boys are behind in every subject. What a poor excuse of an education system!
