Australia: Woman rapes four boys and escapes jail due to 'low self-esteem'
Story here. Excerpt:
'Laura O'Donnell, 20, pleaded guilty and was convicted in the County Court of four counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 and five counts of committing an indecent act with a child under 16.
Court documents reveal she plied the boys, aged 12, 15, and two aged 14, with alcohol on three separate occasions. The first two involved one victim and the third, all four.
Documents show O'Donnell, who had trained to be a childcare worker, assaulted the boys while drunk between February and June last year in Ballarat .
Judge Sue Pullen wholly suspended O'Donnell's two-year, five-month sentence and placed her on an 18-month community-based order despite her previously breaching a similar order for an attempted robbery.
...
The judge attributed her offending to a troubled background, low self-esteem and alcohol abuse.
Crime Victims Support Association president Noel McNamara said the sentence was a disgrace.
"If it was a man on those charges it would have been a different story," he said.'

Female Privilege
Feminists always complain about male privilege but are oblivious to the judicial leniency women get.
Penn State Case
Maybe Jerry Sandusky can use the same argument as a legal defense (Sandusky is the former defensive coordinator at Penn State / Joe Paterno who is accused of molesting several boys). "I'm sorry your honor. I deserve a suspended sentence because my low self-esteem caused me to sexually assault those children." Or maybe Sandusky can claim that he is the real victim because the boys were the actual aggressors.
Yes, that would go over real well with a judge and jury.
SOS
Same old #&*!#....Yet.another PP... The female that committed this despicable crime must have had a reason for her to do this...... So said in so many words this justice blind judge . To once again to state the obvious...."If a male had done this same crime or even something close to it,he would have received at least 10 years or more of a sentence,in the blink of an eye". What is it with all of these incompetent "empty heads"in the legal system who think a crime is less serious if a female commits the crime ??? This kind of reprehensible irresponsible sorry excuse for justice is just not a fluke,a once in awhile happening........It happens all the time !!!.This excepted double standard in the legal system is an absolute disgrace, and it's everywhere ....Enough is Enough.
Normal for Victoria.
This happened down the road from me.
Victoria amended it’s sexual assault laws in the late nineties in ways which made it possible to charge and convict female perpetrators. Previously it simply couldn’t happen. In the intervening decade our courts have hosted a female perpetrator every few weeks or months. The handful who abused girls went to prison. With one exception the vast majority - who had abused boys - were set free.
This is the NORMAL outcome for this type of case in this state.
There is a difference between Victoria's treatment of these cases and that of other states. Cases elsewhere often seem to result in jail terms. Bizarrely Victoria is the only state in which help is available for male victims on a general level.
The state's sexual assault network is primarily government funded and serves victims of both/all sexes. I'm a board member with one of the regional centres and have just gone into my second two year stint. Being a little bit more confident in my position now I'll be starting to work towards ridding the entire system of the residual remaining from a time when male victims weren't welcome.
I'm beginning to communicate with media and the Victorian prosecutions dept about the type of guidance, training, education and information that's been made available to them. I'm convinced that it's been inadequate or hasn't been received/understood adequately. Cases such as this one together with associated media coverage suggest that sensitivities have been trained towards women rather than victims.
victoria, named for a woman

Health & Community
Notice anything missing? Seems the state of Victoria doesn't consider men to be a part of the community. This was exemplified a while back in a speech at one of my centre's functions by the local feminist Labor MP. She couldn't lower herself to acknowledge any of the male victims, counsellors or members who were there right in front of her. Not a part of that community it seems.
This is a political problem. It stems from a decade of Labor government. The solutions are, and will be, political and will not come from any amount of screaming either public or private.
