Justin Bieber sued for paternity despite having been 16 when alleged sex occurred

Story here. Talk about hutzpah. A 19-year-old woman in essence confesses to committing statutory rape of a 16-year-old and demands paternity. Bieber denies his alleged paternity but that isn't the point. If they did have sex when he was 16, isn't that statutory rape on the woman's part? And if so, why isn't she under arrest? The law as we know generally doesn't care about these details. If it can assign paternity even to a minor, it will, even if the mother was a statutory rapist at the time of the impregnation. Excerpt:

'A 20-year-old California woman has filed a bombshell lawsuit against teen pop icon Justin Bieber alleging he is the father of her three-month-old baby boy, Star magazine is exclusively reporting in its new issue.

Mariah Yeater is demanding the singer take a paternity test "to scientifically confirm" he is the father of the child, according to court papers obtained by Star.

The papers were filed in late October and Yeater asks the court for Bieber "to provide adequate support for my baby."

In an affadavit signed under penalty of perjury Yeater says she was 19 years old when she had sex with the underage star backstage at one of his concerts in Los Angeles.'

If she's charged and convicted of statutory rape and its been determined the baby is his, would he be obligated to pay child support? If he does pay child support how can the courts justify giving her primary custody if she's been convicted of rape?

I just read an article and Bieber states they had sex backstage after a concert. I'll be following this development very closely.

I don't believe this would meet California's definition of statutory rape (or any other state) having sex with a minor is not illegal unless the perpetrator is over 21 and there is more than a three year age difference. The age of consent is 16.

But FYI Justin Beiber was born to an unwed 16 year old mother. Based on his religious background and everything I have heard him say publicly about morals, family and parenthood, I am guessing that he is pro-life and would want to be a father to his child.

I doubt these allegations of paternity are true, but even if they are he would likely make the better parent and fathers should have just as much chance at full custody as mothers.

Hmm... now that I see Anthony's last comment about The Biebs admitting he had sex with her, I will be watching this story as well. Interesting

These women have no shame... if there's money to be made, then nothing seems to be out of bounds... even statutory rape.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#California

'California

The age of consent is 18, with a misdemeanor if the minor has 3 or fewer years of difference with the major, and potentially a felony if the major is more than 3 years older. It is worth emphasizing that unlike most other states, the close-in-age rule in California (3 years) do not provide an exception nor provide any defense; it merely lowers the crime to a misdemeanor. Under this law, two minors of the same age could both be prosecuted. Penalties increase if the minor is under 16 and the major is above 21 or if the minor is more than 3 years younger.[44]'

yes ma'am, step right up. get any well-to-do man (or boy) to have unprotected sex,
and you too could be the next big lotto winner. claim a substantial share of any wealthy
man's future income, no marriage license required.

and don't forget, there is no top end on these awards, meaning it could be worth
tens of millions over the years. and best of all, you get to completely control
everything about the child. according to the law, there is to be NO ACCOUNTING
to anyone as to how the windfall profit is to be spent. and no taxes due. it just
doesn't get any better than this.

so 'ladies', lay right down, get him drunk, underage? no problem. the law does not care.

after all, it really IS all about you, wink wink.

It's interesting that in a generation we've gone from women ashamed to admit they had sex outside marriage to women who prey on the nearest man with money--and then go to the newspapers to talk about it.

The saddest thing about this is, even, under the incredibly unlikely case that she is prosecuted for statutory rape (and I would put large sums of money betting they don't even consider pressing charges, let alone convict), she is a woman and a mother and that means California's new sentencing laws (for overcrowded prisons) makes that baby a get out of jail free card. And as she won't be in jail, she will be granted full custody, and if Bieber wants to fight it, he'll have to pay her lawyer's bills, IE, he'll be paying for them to screw him over.

I also note her "affadavit signed under penalty of perjury" doesn't actually claim he is the father, just that they had sex. I also note she says "to provide adequate support for my baby."... "MY" baby... not our baby, it's "hers".

So yeah, Matt already said it. There are a lot of other states that are more draconian than California, where she'd definitely have to register on sex offender registries for the rest of her life. But that little pro-life punk kid isn't any less of a hypocrite, having unprotected sex with women he never intended to see again. This is just an awesome combination of ridiculous "family values", ridiculous family laws, and equally ridiculous rape laws. What a winning combination.

He was an adolescent boy-- rich, famous, undoubtedly reckless, but an adolescent. So she will get custody since of course he was (and still is) underage, unless the matter can be deferred until he turns 18.

Of course the whole thing will be a Jerry Springer media circus with plenty of distraction and no justice.

Bieber just said on the 'Today Show' that he "never met the woman".
