Canada: Universities changing names of women's studies depts. in effort to get male students to take classes

'While many Canadian universities are changing their women's studies programs into gender studies programs, UPEI is sticking with its label.

The name change is meant to make the courses more appealing to men. The official line at UPEI is the name change is not an issue, and the women's studies department would not comment.

Psychology professor Fiona Papps, who offers four courses that are part of the women's studies program, told CBC News Thursday it is a misconception that women's studies focuses narrowly on women.

"You know, just militant feminists or bashing men — that's not true. It looks at issues of social justice, it looks at issues of sexuality, it looks at issues of race," said Papps.

"I need to look at both men and women and across races to see what the differences and similarities are," said Little.

"Then I can actually speak much more as an expert about how all women experience welfare and whether all women experience welfare in similar ways or in different ways."

Papps said that many men do take women's studies courses at UPEI, despite the name.'

Close such pseudo-depts. altogether and require students to take real classes in real fields.

If you're going to take outrageous sums of money from kids to get degrees, at least do them the favor of making sure they take real classes to get degrees they can do something with.

The debt younger people have to get into these days typically to get a degree vs. what it is actually worth out there in the real world cannot excuse this lack of giving necessary guidance that universities are also supposed to be giving to their students.

People coming out of this major gravitate heavily to taxpayer funded women's industry jobs: d.v. programs and services, women's health programs and services, more women's studies teachers, etc.

What an enormous waste of taxpayer dollars going to these scams.

I am fairy convinced that soon the only well paying jobs in the west will be government funded jobs. There might be some very high paying jobs in the financial sector but that's about it. The rest will be government funded or government required jobs.

I think feminism is beginning to falter in the production of government jobs. The next set of leaches will be 'climate change' environmental jobs. There will be literally an army of bureaucrats and environmental offices enforcing what will be huge raft of regulations and restrictions.

Don't defend America - defend yourself against it.
