Excerpts:
'The Department of Gender and Women's Studies offers an array of diverse courses that cover a plethora of disciplines.
"We've been seeing a steady increase in students, and a lot of it is because of the Men and Masculinity course," Sharoni said.
...
The department focus has shifted from just women and their differences to gender and what it means to be male or female in a specific society.
...
"And the focus on gender allows us to also shift to issues that affect men, while continuing to focus on issues that affect women.
"One challenge is not to stereotype men. We see men in all societies who resist stereotypical, patriarchal models and the new models they present."
Critics claim gender studies is an attempt to take over the feminist agenda with studies on masculinity.'

I left a stinky
On the small comment section I left my 2 cents:
The Women's Studies explosion was the recruitment arm of feminism, changing it from a bunch of special interest malcontents to the fifth estate juggernaut it is today. Rebuffed in its attempts in the 60s to introduce feminism in K-12, it performed an end run around that by instead indoctrinating impressionable, though energetic, college coeds, many of whom wound up teaching, you guessed it, K-12. And you can bet the house that any "masculinity" course they allow will teach a feminist brand of masculinity that even castrati would reject.
Wanna bet it doesn't show up.
a unification of the genders?
It would be a shame if womens' studies had to be shared as gender studies, with cariculum from both gender postions weighted equally. An open discussion of roles, societal expectations, maybe even do some myth busting! Ah yes, that would indeed remove the myth of women are better. OK, as I read the article I had a funny thought. Please bare with me, I think it would be rather poetic if a new gender movement, a unification if you will would take the place of womens' studies because, it would be born of a vagina! Gender studies, Human Being studies, we need to redefine exactly what it is to be either a man or a woman, but if men and women are truly equal under the law, that should be a personal choice within the realms of societal decency. Just a thought, need my coffee.
