Woman Sets Fire to Man's Genitals

Story here. Excerpt:

'A Greek woman set fire to a British man's genitals at a club after he allegedly made sexual advances on her.

The unidentified woman is being praised by her hometown in Crete for what she did and for also turning herself in to police immediately after the alleged incident. She has been charged with causing bodily injury and endangering private property, according to the Telegraph.

Police said that the incident took place at a club in the Greek resort town of Malia. The British man, who police have also not yet identified, allegedly took off his pants there and waved his genitals at a number of girls. He is then said to have "forcefully fondled" the Greek woman and asked her to hold his genitals.

The woman asked the man to stop harassing her, police said, and when he didn't, she poured Sabucco, a liquor that resembles Greek ouzo, on his private area.

When the man continued his advances, police said that's when the woman set fire to his genitals using a lighter.'

I rather think she should be praised had she done that, or even had she led the patrons of the bar to subdue him; sounds like he was pretty drunk and probably wouldn't have been too hard to bring into custody. But instead, she had a great opportunity to set his "private parts' on fire-- and earn great praise for it from her hometown. Well, that settles it then.

Don't get me wrong, what he did was criminal. But that neither justifies her behavior or the reaction of the public. There's a reason modern societies have these people known as "police".

If this woman (the perpetrator) was in a club, there were plenty of other people around. So why did she not get some help? Why could she not simply escape from an obviously drunk man? Are these easy solutions too obvious for words? Why do women keep thinking that sexual violence, particularly violence to a man's private parts, is a good way to deal with situations like this? Why do so many other women enjoy hearing about events such as this?

I remember a woman, who I didn't know, who came right up to me and was pushy and said she wanted to fuck. I told her 'no,' in a clear and definitive way. She tried to talk me into it, but my answer was still 'no.' I never once thought that sexual violence against her body was any sort of a way to deal with the situation.

I don't believe self defense should be allowed as an alibi in this case, but I'm willing to bet that the perpetrator doesn't serve any jail time, and she doesn't get fined either...
