I wouldn't consider myself miserable. Two boys who love me, a wife who has stuck with me through thick and thin; I may be one of the construction industry people who got laid off, but at least it gives me more time to bond with my youngest.
Miserable? Not when I get a shirt that says "World's Greatest Dad" and my eldest sees it and says "Daddy, that shirt says 'Best Daddy EVER!'"
Nah. Not miserable because I'm a father. Happy, proud, excited, loved, I'm all those.
It was 5 hours, alone, to play City of Heroes or watch TV and not have to do anything. Since I've been laid off, I've been watching the small one and rarely get to do what I want when I want.
And I got lots of hugs, and many "Happy DDD!" from my eldest (he was being silly and saying DEE DEE DEE! instead of Daddy Day.)
