Army: Suicide rate among soldiers continues on record pace
Story here. Excerpt:
'WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The suicide rate among U.S. Army soldiers jumped in May -- continuing a four-month upward trend and on a record pace for a second straight year, according to Army statistics released Thursday.
Last month the deaths of 17 soldiers were either confirmed or suspected to be suicides, up from 13 in April and 13 in March, the new numbers revealed.
The Army said the total number of potential or confirmed suicides since January stands at 82. Last year the Army recorded 133 suicides, the most ever.
...
"It's clear we have not found full solutions to this yet. But we are trying every remedy and seeking help from outside agencies that are experts in suicide prevention. There isn't a reasonable suicide prevention tool out there the Army won't potentially employ," he said.'

i was in the military
and have lived on or near military bases most of my life.
i have some questions i NEVER hear the military ask:
i didn't notice it told of the much greater percentage
of suicides being among males in the military than females.
i also noticed nowhere mentioned the horrific
percentage of military marriages that end in divorce.
i understand it is staggering.
or how the great majority are instituted by the military member's spouse.
i have personally seen that it is usually the spouse who wants out.
military life is challenging for everyone involved.
or how many divorces (%) were filed for while the military man was deployed.
or what typically happens to his children following these divorces,
while he is away fighting for his country. how does the military help
him to retain his rights? i think many on this site have a good idea.
or how after 10 years, military spouses are entitled to military benefits
w/o having served a day. i once knew 2 separate spouses freely dating around
while waiting for that qualifying day.
or how the military will help the flighty spouse in any way possible, including
automatic garnishment of pay, legal assistance, and in many other ways, all
the while holding the military man very accountable. he has great responsibilities,
while she has great rights.
in short, the military appears to treat the female spouse much better,
and more fairly than the soldier they claim to care so much about.
imho - maybe looking for the real truth and forgetting how to be p.c. until that truth is found, would be a good place to start.
or maybe the real truth is already known?
