Poll: Should the Army exempt mothers with young children from active service?

Vote here. Some comments:

"This isn't a feminist issue (and I have often been described as one), both men and women who have served their country with honor but then kept on the list for recall should as parents be able to care for their children. The military has the ability to provide stateside jobs and should take every means possible to provide this. It is not their duty to break apart families. Let the parent complete their military contract where they can also be the parent they need to be."

"I completely agree. We cannot whine our way into the service and then use the fact that we can carry children to try to whine our way back out. When you sign up for the military, you KNOW this is a possibility...like it or not, you can hope it doesn't happen, but it does...now deal with it! And, YES, I am a mother!!"

if you don't want to do the work, then don't take the job in the first place. if women are going to be exempt. then in the name of equality, should fathers of small children also have that choice?

She's obligated to serve ... she's obligated to support her child.

The solution is that she goes straight to the front lines ... the child is placed with the father or other party selected in the best interests of the child by the social service agencies ... and then she must pay court ordered child support + insurance + day care + all add-ons(based on her civilian pay)to the custodian of the child.

If she falls behind in Child Support payments ... send her to debtors prison. When she gets out .. re-arrest her and send her back.

That seems to be the way men are treated.

this is a woman. she is precious.
she deserves special princess treatment.

if this was a guy in the same position..
yeah, but this is an assigned victim, again.

i say we just all chip in and pay women to stay at home.
probably be cheaper in the long run. this constant whining
and victimhood and special treatment got old several decades ago.

everyone who SERVES in the military makes sacrifices.

well, almost everyone.

If one took the time to think about what she said it makes sense. She wasn't crying and whining for women only. As a matter of fact she spoke for men as well. It would be something different if men were treated with the same respect as women in regards to their duties as a father; something that most on this site have been talking about.

True, man or woman I don't think anything should get you out of your obligation, you should go to prison if you try to get out if you are in the Reserves as the only alternative. It's not a free ride. I went when I was called up and never though twice, this precious snowflake B.S. is sickening.

I pretty much agree with everything that's already been said. If a man were in this positiion, no one would sympathise with him, and thus, I can't really sympathise with this mother.

She signed up for the job after all.
