'Hillary Clinton might have won, if not for that. It isn't a good idea for anyone seeking a singular office like the Presidency to make that distinction. This country has been run for centuries by men only, and men named Adams and Wilson, Ford and Reagan, Carter and Clinton. To break that mold, you almost had to avoid the subject of breaking any mold whatsoever. (Witness some of Obama's recent appointments.)

But in a state like New York, teeming with talented, ambitious and dedicated women within its political circles, in a state like New York that has already elected a woman to one of its current US Senate terms, in any state wherein the Congressional delegation provides for two US Senators to hold office, Governor David Paterson must appoint a woman to replace Senator Clinton. It is not difficult to imagine that we are at the place in the history of New York politics where this is "the women's seat" of the two from New York.'

You could appoint the most qualified person for the job. If that person happens to be female, then so be it. But that would be equal and might even be a bit sexist if the most qualified is not female.

"Woman's seat?" Does that imply that the other is the man's seat? I highly doubt that. It's more like woman's seat and not-yet-woman's seat.

of our ancestors contained w/in the Constitution
and our other founding documents mean nothing
when there are women to appease.

these half-men will say and do whatever it takes to
keep their mistresses happy and full of themselves.

i have seen it over and over in the business world.
promote someone because of affirmative action and they
will act like it played no part in their ascension.

i even heard our pres elect say in an interview the other day
that he doubted that affirmative action played any part in his
success.

if he is that blind and easily duped, we are all in trouble.

I think that male feminists have much more urgent tasks as regards to women than to push them into politics. Women perish nowadays and instead of saving their lives male feminists are occupied with various stupid bullshit like arguing about "women's seats".

An analysis of California drinking and driving data from 1998 to 2007 shows that alcohol-related crashes involving young adult women drivers soared, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California. The Auto Club found that women drivers ages 21-24 involved in fatal and injury alcohol-related crashes more than doubled -- rising by 116%. The Auto Club analysis also showed their male counterparts' crashes during the same period rose 39%.

The analysis also shows that young adult women drivers, passengers and pedestrians' alcohol-related deaths and injuries have risen substantially -- by nearly half since 1998 when 1,037 women ages 21-24 were killed and injured in alcohol-related crashes. In 2007, the level had risen by 46% to 1,515 in 2007, according to the Auto Club.

The Auto Club analysis of California Highway Patrol data of the last 10 years shows that women far outpaced men the same age in alcohol-related deaths and injuries. Alcohol-related deaths and injuries of men ages 21-24 increased by 18% compared to the 46% for women.

Is he being sarcastic? Didn't he recently suffer a terrible difference and complain of the courts unfairly treating his wife?

Now he wants them to automatically appoint a woman?

I'm likely to be visiting america or canada next year for 4 months, i can't wait till i get there, and as an Irish person, i'll be a minorty, and i can start bitching about the man keeping me down, and how my ancestors suffered due to racism. It'll be great!
