University cancels support of cystic fibrosis annual fund raiser because it “affects mainly white males”

Read this disturbing article here. Excerpt:

'Carleton University’s Students Union’s decision not to do Shinerama next year because cystic fibrosis “affects mainly white males,” is based on misinformation, says the head of the Canadian CF Foundation.

“It’s the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting young people in this country,” CEO Cathleen Morrison said.

“Hopefully people are making decisions based on information that is correct.”

At their monthly meeting Monday night, student councillors heard a motion to stop supporting Shinerama that included the whereas clauses that they want to be “inclusive as possible,” “support diverse communities” and that “CF has recently been revealed to affect white people and primarily men.”'

Got to love that liberal arts education.

I'm glad I quit. It seems these days they're not really places of learning, but places of indoctrination. It's just as well.. I'm gonna go to trade school for a year and then earn more than I would have from a 4 year degree anyway.

BTW, why an ailment affecting mainly white males would be a good reason to not support research towards a cure is beyond me. Only someone who has an axe to grind against whites and males would try to justify this. Imagine if they chose to stop a benefit for sickle-cell anemia because it mainly affected blacks... they'd be excommunicated!

at work, but unable to add a comment on the cbc news website (I was at work).
I'm happy and encouraged to see that the almost unanimous feeling is that this is totally unacceptable.

Anyway, the student's union got bashed, and the president (Brittany Smyth)has sure learned a thing or two about the real world outside of university. Carleton U. is reeling from the negative response. What's best is that a lot of men found their balls and spoke out.
