New Zealand: Men urged to wear white ribbon against domestic violence

Story here. Excerpt:

'Men are being encouraged to wear a white ribbon and take a stand against domestic violence today.

People will wear the ribbons as a sign they do not condone domestic violence and to encourage people to speak out about violent or abusive behaviour.

White Ribbon Day, started by a men's group in Canada in 1991, has now been designated by the United Nations as the official day to mark the campaign to eliminate violence against women.
...
The day has been organised by the Families Commission and more than 500,000 ribbons will be handed out. The ribbons were packaged by Rimutaka Prison inmates, with $357,000 funding supplied by eight government departments, including the Social Development Ministry, Justice Ministry and police.'

... well then obviously you're a merciless wife-beater and must be confronted!

I have an idea for a ribbon campaign. It's this: Wear a light blue ribbon if you are in favor of water and oxygen. If you don't, you're clearly a sociopath hell-bent on starving off all living things and thus a menace to all life as we know it. Yeah, that's it.

Wonder if those ribbons come with pamphlets discussing how DV is an equal-opportunity phenomenon?

...that only considers violence against women relevant and conveniently dismisses the other facets of domestic violence as irrelevant (if it doesn't ignore them altogether), including:

- men can be victims
- men ARE victims
- false accusations of DV

and so on and so forth. The same comment also applies to the White Ribbon Campaign as a whole.

What else is new.

How about I wear a black ribbon to call attention to the evil, hateful way the taxpayer funded, mainstream domestic violence industry treats all men?

Well, I'm a New Zealander, and I refuse to wear one of these ribbons. I don't condone violence against women but this doesn't take into account the whole picture. In fact, it's just a waste of time, like those ads.

Don't give women a seconds thought no matter what happens to them. FRANKLY just DON'T GIVE A DAM .

I don't disagree with the idea of discouraging domestic violence, but I would have to include domestic violence against men in the campaign. Of course, we can't have something about domestic violence tarnish women's perfect public image, can we.

From the Family Commission's website -

"Each year New Zealanders are encouraged to wear a white ribbon to show that they do not condone men's violence towards women.

White Ribbon Day (25 November) is the international day when people, particularly men, wear a white ribbon to show they won't tolerate, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

... activities focus on encouraging men to talk openly about family violence and challenge comments or behaviour that is abusive."

---------------
The opening lines of the newspaper article read -

"Men are being encouraged to wear a white ribbon and take a stand against domestic violence today.

People will wear the ribbons as a sign they do not condone domestic violence..."

Funny how "men" become "people," suggesting that women too might be wearing white ribbons. (Apparently not.)

The men who wear the ribbons are symbolically branding themselves as potential batterers, members of the evil patriarchal class that need to keep their natural tendencies towards violence against women in check.

The absence of any consideration of female violence confirms that this is a standard feminist masquerade painting men as brutes.

I understand the above comments but for me they are just too reasonable. What happens to women is a matter of indifference to me. If I saw one on fire then I would not give her the benefit of my piss.
