Toronto Star: Women no longer need to be coddled
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 2006-10-16 14:25
For those of you who know the Toronto Star, you'll probably be shocked to read that this little ditty was published in their pages:
"As much as equality between the genders can be achieved, it has been achieved in Canada. In the reasonable ways in which gender equality can be measured, Canadian women can declare victory.
Women have every kind of liberty, intellectual, physical and reproductive freedom. Women have the same opportunities as men. Women can become CEOs, die in horrible space shuttle accidents, buy banks, get the better of someone in a divorce settlement — all the things that used to pretty much be the realm of men.
Contrary to the oft-repeated — and debunked — perceived wisdom, women in Canada have achieved pay equity."

Great to see that message finally getting out
There have been a few nationally published articles lately about the fact that feminists have outlived any usefullness they ever had. That's great! Time is almost right for the idea to be introduced on a broad scale to the general public that men's activism is now what is needed to achieve equality.
It is a hard sell as long as feminists have a strangle hold on victim status and descrimination. But if the general public accepts the idea that woman have achieved their goals and then some, they can more easily be sold on the idea that men need a little help to catch up to women on the equality scale.
It's an exciting time to be an MRA because the sun is starting to shine its way through the cracks in the boarded up windows of the abandoned buildings we call our offices because we can't afford anything better! We will soon have a general public that is ready to hear our message and ready to force our elected officials to respond!
Nothing out of ordinary for the Star
The reason why this is nothing out of ordinary for The Star is because we are only seeing half of the picture. This article is just one out of two that always appear together (in which two sides of an issue are debated). There is a mirror article with the opposite opinion on the very same page. The Star is still misandrist, and what appears in this article is far from their editorial stance. But at least we got our viewpoint in there.
Nevertheless, in yesterday's Star (the very same paper) there was a book review about the former HP CEO who was let go -- Fiorina, I think. She wrote a book whining about how the "old-boys club" screwed her over and pushed her out. The review basically pummeled her, telling her to quit whining and acting like a victim. They actually advised readers not to buy the book.
But let us remember that the Star brought us Michele Landberg for 25 years. That is reason enough not to read the paper.
Just two comments - not to change the subject
1) When have men EVER gotten the better of women in divorce settlements, in general? Saying that at some point in the past they have, is irresponsible.
2)Mentioning Fiorina, she is also involved in the ongoing scandal, of how HP illegally obtained employees' phone and other records. Apparantly this process began when SHE was the CEO. That is a little-mentioned fact in the media, even though the scandal has been front-page news. (Also her replacement, another woman, is heavily implicated in the scandal. But female news reporters are making her sound like some kind of heroine, saying she has been fighting ovarian cancer all along; and no doubt her sentence will be lessened due to this fact).
