VA To Test Suicide Public Service Ads

'The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is expected to launch a suicide prevention public service campaign in Washington, DC next week as part of a three-month pilot program.

CBS News has learned that the VA will roll out the campaign on July 21 which will include a series of bus advertisements as well as more than 300 ads inside DC commuter trains and at metro train stations.

“Ensuring that help is available for veterans at risk for suicide is only half the battle,” said Congressman Harry Mitchell, a Democrat from Arizona who also serves as Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. Since enrolling into the VA system is voluntary, Congressman Mitchell adds, "Veterans need to know where they can turn to get help.”'

Now all they need to do is fix the VA, and they can start by firing the 75% of employees who are rude, insensitive, condescending pigs. (I use the VA so I know). They even punish veterans who miss appointments, even if through no fault of their own. Essentially they keep a "rap sheet" as a hidden part of a veteran's record - hidden in the sense that if the veteran obtains his written record, which he is entitled to by law, this listing of his misdeeds and their severity will not be part of the written record. (I obtained this knowledge from a highly reliable source within the VA)

There is also a visible, literal "red flag" which does show up on the computer monitor when a doctor pulls up a patient's record, list of medications, or etc; this flag is highlighted if the veteran has been known to be particularly disruptive at the facility.

In a sense that is fair, even though there is some level of subjectivity as to determining what is "disruptive"; but the key here is that the flag also serves as somewhat of a smoke screen to hide the rap sheet. For example, a veteran may ask his doctor during a session, if he has anything negative in his record. The doctor may then point to the computer screen and say, "no - see here? The flag is not highlighted"; whereas there may in fact be numerous negative entries ranging anywhere from "argued with receptionist" (translation: "mentioned that he had been waiting three hours for the doctor"); to "seems to be very hostile..be on guard, have another person present in the doctor's office" (translation: "mentioned that he had been waiting three hours for the doctor").

The kicker is that if the patient has any more than one or two negative entries, the staff subsequently treats him in a very negative or even aggressive manner as soon as they pull up his record, which they do for all visits - that is, they treat him this way at the outset, which is bound to lead to even more incidents!

This is not paranioa guys..it's your tax dollars at work - putting our veterans first.

To give a picture of how condescending and clueless some of those who work for the government are, I recently read the following:

One federal government department with a large office near where I live, found out that a survey of the public who had used that office had, as their chief complaint apparently, that they had gotten a "bad first impression" (the survey was done by a local newspaper).

So the government in its infinite wisdom, having to save face, established a "Department of First Impressions" within the office, and now when a member of the public enters their building, he/she is immediately confronted by a 60's-year-old lady with a really, really big grin on her face, who asks in a really, really concerned manner how you are doing today, then hands you a leaflet explaining how the Department of First Impressions was established; then the lady says, "okay - so now, how is your first impression?"

Guys, I don't know what's worse feminism or the government..I guess with Joe Biden we are getting the worst possible combination, but that is a different issue.
