Article here. I am not saying that the verdict was wrong. The point of this post is that there was once a time people complained vehemently at the lack of women in juries because any woman put on trial would undoubtedly have a gender bias against her since all or most of the jurors were men. In this case, a man faced 11 women and one man. Why didn't the attorneys take the oft-heard principle that juries should be representative of the population of eligible jurors in mind when choosing this jury? They could not find five more men to be seated as jurors in this trial? Excerpt:
'This time, there was no holdout juror.
It may have taken parts of 10 days to talk through the counts, but a federal jury of 11 women and one man on Monday overwhelmingly convicted former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
In the end, they found him guilty on 17 out of 20 counts, including fraud, extortion and bribery.
One juror who wanted to acquit the ex-governor said she couldn’t ignore the mountain of evidence facing him.'

Article here. Excerpt:
'According to Whitmire, children are forced to use literacy skills much earlier than in the past, and boys develop these skills later than girls. In the world of "Kindergarten is the new first grade," boys are struggling mightily to keep up. When it comes to writing, the gender divide is even greater. NCLB and our hyper-focus on standardized test scores is worsening, not ameliorating, the academic struggles of boys, and subsequently increasing the numbers of boys who turn off to school and eventually drop out.
According to Gurian, boys learn by doing and by moving their bodies through space. The more emphasis is placed on the development of early reading skills, and the less emphasis is placed on a healthy amount of movement and experiential learning, the more disadvantageous our schools will be for males.'

Story here. Excerpt:
'Norwalk Police arrested a 20-year-old woman on a warrant Monday for falsely accusing two city men of violently raping her.
Brittany Reith, of 7 Commerce St., was charged with falsely reporting an incident concerning serious injury or death and making a false statement. She was held on $5,000 bond and given a court date of July 8.
Reith made a sworn, written statement to police after showing up more than 12 hours late to the apartment that she shares with her boyfriend and telling him that she'd been kidnapped by three men, held against her will and repeatedly raped, according to court documents.
As a result of Reith's statement, patrol officers arrested two men -- Anthony Lee and Joseph Gay -- on April 7 for felony sexual assault and battery charges. Lee, a former standout Norwalk High School basketball player, had no criminal record. Gay had prior drug dealing convictions, but police never arrested him for a violent crime.'

Article here. Is Bristol Palin engaging in parental alienation? Her claim that her virginity was 'stolen' is obviously unsubstantiated and Levi Johnston is entitled to his side of the story. It seems as if he's not getting the benefit of the doubt and as a result is being punished by losing time with his child. Excerpt:
'When her mother, Sarah Palin, was thrust into the spotlight as John McCain's vice presidential candidate, Bristol Palin had to come out with a secret, that she was about to be a teen mom. Now she's revealed her whole story in her book, "Not Afraid of Life," and there are plenty of surprises.
Bristol Palin doesn't accuse the father of her baby, Levi Johnston, of date rape, but does say she felt her virginity was stolen. She was drunk and to her, that's how it felt.

'Women, on the other hand, do almost everything better. We've known this intuitively for a long time. If you didn't, just ask your wife or your mother. But now there’s a raft of evidence that suggests women are better at everything — including investing.

“Women were more likely than men to have a greater desire for self-control,” the study concluded.
In other words, they trade less and earn more.

“Women tend to have lower composure and a greater desire for financial self-control, which is associated with a desire to use self-control strategies. Women are also more likely to believe that these strategies are effective.”'

'For some parents, it would be like finding nirvana. In Sweden there exists a school where there is no gender. The kids don't learn about "he" or "she." And the books are all about homosexual couples, lest mother or father be seen as "better."
It sounds like a load of manure to me. Yeah, I said it. Egalia is being touted as the new wunderkind on the educational playground. It's a place where they're creating children who believe in gender equality because inside the walls of Egalia, gender doesn't exist.

Such a sweet old lady. Link to article here. Excerpt:
'A man who disappeared 14 years ago has been found buried in his wife's flowerbed in North Carolina.
Police only started searching for David Ellis Bostic after his wife died last year, aged 78, and they realised she had been collecting his social security payments, NY Daily News reports.
Last month investigators found the US man's remains buried in the garden that his wife Ruth Huber Bostic lovingly tended up until her death.
Police say the autopsy revealed nothing suspicious about Mr Bostic's death but they are still investigating the case.
In the 1990s Mrs Bostic told her neighbours that her husband had a stroke and they believed he had gone to live in a nursing home.
Mrs Bostic's neighbours said her house fell into disrepair after her husband disappeared but the old woman continued caring for her garden and they often caught her talking as she tended her violets and hosta plants.'

Article here. In contrast, a story also on that same page of two women caught smuggling drugs takes up six paragraphs. Excerpt:
'About 1:50 a.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old man was found stabbed on Post Avenue. He died shortly after. A 30-year-old woman is in custody in relation to that incident.'
"Incident"? It's just an "incident"? Guess it is if the victim is male and the perp is female.

ACT NOW: TELL DOCTORS TO PUT DOWN THE KNIFE!
Have you made your voice heard yet?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) all acknowledge that infant circumcision is NOT MEDICALLY NECESSARY, but their members are responsible for nearly all the infant circumcisions performed in the United States.
We need them to acknowledge this ethical disconnect, to recommend that parents leave their sons intact, and to REFUSE TO PERFORM CIRCUMCISIONS.
Send a message to America’s doctors by writing today!

Article here. The South African Medical Association just denounced infant male circumcision as unethical and illegal and expressed "serious concern that not enough scientifically-based evidence was available to confirm that circumcisions prevented HIV contraction and that the public at large was influenced by incorrect and misrepresented information. The committee reiterated its view that it did not support circumcision to prevent HIV transmission." Excerpt:
'(PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA) — The South African Medical Association sent a letter response last week to NOCIRC-SA—the South African chapter of the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers— denouncing male infant circumcision as "unethical"and "illegal." The letter was signed by Ms. Ulundia Berhtel, head of the Human Rights, Law & Ethics unit, and Obo Chairperson of the Human Rights, Law & Ethics Committee.

Article here. Excerpt:
'San Francisco voters will decide later this year whether, like its female counterpart, male infant circumcision should be outlawed. If passed, article 50 — the "Genital Cutting of Male Minors" — would make it unlawful to circumcise, cut, or mutilate the foreskin, testicles, or penis of another person aged under 18. The bill includes an exemption for cases of medical necessity, but not for custom or ritual, which has profound implications for the many Jews and Muslims who consider it an essential part of their religious or cultural practice.
Unsurprisingly, the bill has attracted considerable controversy. Some regard it as a modern manifestation of western antisemitism, while certain feminist groups consider the idea of comparing male and female genital cutting to be both offensive and unsubstantiated.
...
According to research, the sexual damage caused by female and male genital cutting can be extensive. ....

JUNE 2011
IT’S TIME TO PUT THE INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL COMMUNITY ON NOTICE
Next month, health professionals from across the globe are gathering in Rome for the International AIDS Society’s Annual Conference. Intact America will be there to give a voice to the millions of boys and men around the world who are at risk of being needlessly cut in the name of bogus science. Someone has to speak the truth: circumcision does not prevent AIDS.
With all the media focus on circumcision, we NEED to be prepared for this conference, so we can distribute educational materials to the hundreds of people we’ll be talking to—people who are determining HIV policy around the world.
But we have to get our orders in for the pamphlets, banners, and signs by TOMORROW so they can be printed and shipped in time for the conference.
Make your tax-deductible gift today to help us remind the medical community that circumcision does NOT prevent AIDS!
With your help we can get there!

Article here. Excerpt:
'Readers don't know why Oregon boys drop out of school or skip college at higher rates than girls. They're not sure why boys get suspended, expelled and labeled with learning disabilities so often, either -- or why metro-area boys were so unlikely this June to be valedictorians.
They have a few theories, though. Mostly, they wish people would stop dodging the topic long enough to brainstorm solutions.
"Most times when I talk to people about this problem, they always think I am portraying women as the villain," said Portland father Kevin Sayre, 50. He doesn't intend to seem sexist when sounding the alarm about boys lagging behind. He just worries that if we continue to ignore or fail boys, more of them will grow into bored and unemployed men.'
