'Sharon Osbourne is controversial, there’s no doubt about it. So when a new story surfaced, telling of how Catherine Becker lopped off her man’s penis and tossed it in a garbage disposal, she had to have her say.
And like any other normal person on the planet, Sharon doesn’t think it’s a good idea to sever your guy’s goody parts. Good. I mean, who does that?!??
Firstly, on the show, Sharon had a laugh at the man’s expense, saying that she thinks “it’s quite fabulous”, after admitting that she doesn’t know the circumstances or why he filed for divorce. She also referred to it as “hysterical”.
...
Now, she has issued an apology, saying, “I do not condone genital mutilation and I didn’t mean any harm by laughing about it and I’m sorry that I offended people cause that’s not my intention or the intention of the show – it’s not what we are about.”'

The madness spreads. Link here. Excerpt:
'Teenage eating habits are poor, with teenage girls worse, risking long-term effects on their health according to new Department of Health data published today.
The National Diet and Nutrition Survey, which was led by the National Centre for Social Research and MRC Human Nutrition Research, found that teenage girls are only eating half their recommended portions of fruit and veg. And just 56 per cent of teenage girls are getting enough iron in their diet.
While both teenage boys and girls are failing to get their recommended 5-a-day of fruit and veg, girls eat on average half a portion less each day than boys. The findings build on previous surveys and highlight that poor eating habits risk storing up a number of potential problems for later life, such as heart disease and some cancers.'

'There are many who deny we live in an age where maleness, where masculinity has been so devalued as to be commonly regarded as Subhuman. Where male sexuality is treated with such revulsion and contempt, that major television personalities feel completely free to make light...no, to outright revel in glee at a man being poisoned, tied up, and having his penis cut off, then ground to a pulp, by his wife, because he wanted a Divorce.
These same major television personalities that ROUTINELY cry about 'Battered Women' are making light of the poisoning, kidnapping, and torture of a man for wanting a Divorce. In an age of No Fault Divorce, which was instituted at Feminist behest. They do not hide their glee at all, in fact Sharon Osbourne (the wife of Ozzy) even makes mixing motions with her hands, simulating a garbage disposal, and calls the whole thing 'delightful'.
The appalling hatred of men is not only not hidden, but outright FLAUNTED.'

Google these words (without quotes): "the talk cbs penis sexism" and see the results. There are several Facebook Group pages set up in an effort to get an appropriate level of apology from CBS (one is here). Another Facebook Group has specific instructions on how to complain to the FCC (Kris, this one's for you!) about the episode here. Let's keep the momentum going!
My own take is that heads need to roll over this issue. Apologies don't strike me as good enough. Osbourne needs to go, possibly others. As for the audience that day-- well, they need male-issues sensitivity training, but I doubt they'll get it any time soon.

Key policy makers from around the world are convening THIS WEEK in Rome for the International AIDS Society's annual conference. Thanks to the generosity of Intact America’s supporters, we are there, calling upon the governing bodies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS to acknowledge the truth: circumcision does not prevent AIDS.
It’s critical that UNAIDS and the WHO stop supporting mass circumcisions, and accept the fact that there are other, better ways to fight the HIV epidemic. We’ve created a petition to help them get that message.
Will you make your voice heard, and sign our petition today?
We know that safe sexual practices and abstinence—not circumcision—prevent HIV. But the practice of mass circumcision persists. That’s why we’ll be on the ground in Rome, talking with health professionals and community activists, and telling them the truth about circumcision:

'If I had a nickel for every time my wife threatened to knock me out, cut off my penis and throw it in the garbage disposal...
I heard the news yesterday. Well actually I overheard it. Some gals around the office were chortling about the husband in Garden Grove whose wife doped his victuals, strapped him to the bed, hacked off his willy with a carving knife and chucked the severed member in the disposal because "he deserved it." I didn't learn the details of the story until I got home last night and it seemed to me such a grizzly thing oughtn't to provoke workplace giggles, but ought or not, there's a good dose of funny about it.'

'Wendy Williams, the American television personality, chatting with reporters outside Boa's Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Williams, wearing an elegant purple dress, was quizzed on the recent story about a Californian woman drugging her husband and chopping off his penis before dumping it in the garbage disposal.
Williams sympathized with the woman, saying, "When you cross a woman.all is fair". She later joked, "It was more efficient then throwing it in a field, where they could pick it up. Dispose of it the right way". Los Angeles, California - 15.07.2011'

Article here. I'm assuming men will not be covered for domestic violence counseling. Last I checked, men also get HIV and would certainly benefit from an annual wellness exam. Excerpt:
'Virtually all health insurance plans could soon be required to offer female patients free coverage of prescription birth control, breast-pump rentals, counseling for domestic violence, and annual wellness exams and HIV tests as a result of recommendations released Tuesday by an independent advisory panel of health experts.
The health-care law adopted last year directed the Obama administration to draw up a list of preventive services for women that all new health plans must cover without deductibles or co-payments. While the guidelines suggested Tuesday by a committee of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine are not binding, the panel conducted its year-long review at the request of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.'

'Is it pride in pulchritude? Is it pressure from the opposite sex? Or might it even be that not so many people like to see men naked?
In an intellectually titled piece of research--"Let My Fingers Do the Talking: Sexting and Infidelity in Cyberspace"--Diane Kholos Wysocki, a professor of sociology and women's studies at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Cheryl D. Childers, a professor of sociology at Washburn University, create a snapshot that some might find intuitive and some might find depressing.
Their numerical conclusions appear clear: two-thirds of the women surveyed said that they sexted. Only half of the men did. And women were more likely to send nude pictures of themselves out across the Internets. One might imagine that this correlates just vaguely with the preponderance of images of naked women in magazines wrapped in plastic, or that appear on the Web's vast number of sexually explicit sites.

'A former high school physical education teacher accused of having sex with five male students is changing her plea from not guilty to not guilty by reason of insanity.
Stacy Schuler, 33, of Springboro, Ohio, had been indicted on 16 counts of sexual battery and three counts of offenses involving underage persons.
She allegedly had sexual relations at her home with the five students, mostly football players at the high school, on five separate occasions from August to December of 2010.
...
Unmarried Schuler, 33, will have to be examined by one or more psychologists or psychiatrists, the Dayton Daily News reports.
Under Ohio law, a person is considered insane if they are suffering from a mental defect and doesn’t know right from wrong.
Mr Rittgers said the examination of Schuler will be to determine if she is competent to stand trial.'

'The ladies of “The Talk,” CBS’s answer to “The View,” have come under fire for laughing during a segment about Catherine Kieu, the California woman accused of cutting of her husband’s private part and disposing of it in a particularly gruesome way after he asked for a divorce.
“I don’t know the circumstances,” host Sharon Osbourne said. “However, I do think it’s quite fabulous.” What sounded like the entire audience began to laugh.
The other panelists — Leah Remini, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete and Sara Gilbert — didn’t revel in the story quite as much. But all of the hosts let out at least a small chuckle during the conversation.
Gilbert pointed out that the conversation could be perceived as sexist. “Not to be a total buzz kill,” Gilbert began, “but it is a little bit sexist. If somebody cut a woman’s breast off, nobody would be sitting laughing.”
“It’s different,” Osbourne said, before comparing the two parts of the anatomy.'

'Fathers and Families’ Election 2012 Campaign activists attended New Hampshire GOP events this week and asked former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, a 2008 and potential 2012 presidential candidate, about family court reform. Giuliani told F & F activist Shawn Gliklich, MD “family courts absolutely need reform,” and expressed interest in meeting with F & F.
Giuliani told Dr. Gliklich that he sees family law as a state matter, rather than a federal one. Giuliani is for the most part correct, however, there are many things the federal government could do to promote shared custody and undermine the current sole custody to mom norm.

“Fathers and Families has no position on same-sex marriage. But we do have a position on same-sex ‘divorce.’
Once a child has bonded with two adults as her parents, she is deeply and often permanently hurt by the sudden, court-ordered absence of one of her parents, regardless of the parents’ sexual orientation…”

'Odds are that if there were more women in these discussions, the crisis would have been resolved by now.
...
Women use both sides of their brain more effectively and thus are naturally hardwired to be better communicators, more creative problem solvers and in moments of stress, less likely to walk out of meetings -- debt-ceiling variety and others -- than men.
Furthermore, testosterone not only prompts a fight-or-flight response to stress, it suppresses oxytocin, the hormone that encourages bonding and positive social behavior.
...
Nearly 85% of the people in Congress are men. So if you ever wonder why these debt ceiling negotiations appear to have an inordinate amount of chest-pounding and tree spraying, that number -- more than the $14 trillion we owe -- seems like the best place to start.'

'An indictment was unsealed Tuesday charging Melinda Brady with first-degree robbery in connection with the pharmacy massacre that claimed four lives and stunned Long Island last month, prosecutors said.
She will not face murder charges in the quadruple killings on Father's Day.
Police say Brady, a known pain pill addict and the wife of accused killer David Laffer, was the getaway driver in the shootings. Prosecutors say the pair hatched a plan to rob a Medford, N.Y. pharmacy of painkillers; Laffer is also accused of gunning down four people inside.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said Tuesday that Brady could not be charged with murder because she was not aware her husband had a gun when he went into the pharmacy.'
