Rabbis: Circumcision Death Investigation Could Force Mohels Underground

Article here. Excerpt:

'This week, the Brooklyn district attorney confirmed that prosecutors are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a two-week old infant who died last fall in Brooklyn after he contracted herpes from a religious circumcision at Maimonides Medical Center. Now, rabbis are worried that the investigation may send mohels who perform the metzitzah b’peh ritual into back alley circumcisions: “The worst thing that could happen is if the authorities regulate this practice, then it could go underground,” Rabbi David Zwiebel, the executive vice president of Agudath Israel of America, told the Times.

"I think the practice would continue, but there could be significant difficulty in gathering evidence. I would hope that our government officials take steps in conjunction with the community," he said. The cause of death for the boy, who died last September, was listed as "disseminated herpes simplex virus Type 1, complicating ritual circumcision with oral suction."

Were single mothers better off in the 19th Century?

Article here. Excerpt:

As far back as the 1800s, single mothers were receiving benefits. At that time, they would be paid up front and in cash, but were they better off than today?
...
Cambridge historian Dr Samantha Williams has examined an early form of welfare in England and Wales called the Old English Poor Law. Under it, poor relief - as it was then called - was given out by the local parish. Looking at the plight of poor families in two Bedfordshire communities between 1760 and the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834, her research reveals that a generous benefits system existed in parts of England.
...

If a single pregnant mother wanted to claim poor relief before 1834, she had to go before two judicial officers and swear on the paternity of her child's father under oath. No other proof was needed. She would then receive benefits up front and the officials would try to reclaim money back from the father.

Link here. Excerpt:

'March 10 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a day to recognize the special risks HIV/AIDS pose for women and girls, and to raise awareness of the disease's impact on them.
...
Personal factors also put all women at risk for HIV, regardless of age, race, or ethnicity.

* Heterosexual sex puts women at risk for HIV. It is important to know a male partner's HIV status and insist upon condom use during sexual encounters.
* Unprotected vaginal sex puts women at risk for HIV, and unprotected anal sex places women at an even greater risk for HIV transmission.
* Women who have experienced sexual abuse may use drugs as a coping mechanism, find it difficult to refuse unwanted sex, exchange sex for drugs, or engage in risky sexual behaviors, all of which increase HIV transmission risk.

India: Products, benefits that only women get

Article here. Excerpt:

'Income-tax benefits

Under the current tax regime, women pay less tax than men. For example, for the assessment year (AY) 2012-2013, the tax exemption limit for women is Rs. 1.9 lakh. In other words, no tax is to be paid on Rs. 1.9 lakh of your salary. However, for men this limit is Rs. 1.8 lakh.

So a woman who earns an annual salary of Rs. 10 lakh will need to pay around Rs. 1.18 lakh as income-tax. In comparison, the male counterpart will need to pay Rs. 1.19 lakh tax. This tax liability is assuming that both have availed section 80C and 80CCF deductions of Rs. 1.2 lakh.

UK: Law launch 'perpetuates the women-only myth' of abuse

Article here. Excerpt:

'Police chiefs have been criticised for “perpetuating the myth” that only women can be the victims of domestic violence after they outraged campaigners with the launch of the so-called “Clare’s Law”.

Wiltshire Police is one of just four forces in the country given the new powers, which will let people know if partners have a history of domestic abuse. Around one incident of domestic violence in every six reported involves a male victim, though campaigners believe the problem is worse.

But when Wiltshire Police announced the start of the trial in the county yesterday, they only referred to women checking on new partners.'

'A Bad Law on Life Support'

Article here. Excerpt:

'A bad piece of legislation is about to be reauthorized, empowering bureaucrats and tort lawyers and poisoning relations between women and men. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) could be fixed, but Senate Democrats will not hear of it.

Vice President Joe Biden says that out of all the legislation that he was associated with while serving in Congress, he is most proud of his role in getting the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed in 1994. Now, seventeen years later, even the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), admits that the bill is too broad to be effective. An expert in family violence, Dr. Angela Moore Parmley, concurs: "We have no evidence to date that VAWA has led to a decrease in the overall levels of violence against women." To the contrary, some studies indicate an increase in violence against women since VAWA was enacted, including in one study a 60-percent increase in intimate partner homicides.

SAVE: Tell Olympia Snowe, Vote No on VAWA

We'd like to express our gratitude. Your calls to Washington DC expressing your opposition to VAWA are having an impact. THANK YOU.

Senator Leahy has not yet convinced enough senators to sign-on to VAWA to avoid a filibuster. Let's make sure he never does.

Today we're asking you to call Senator Olympia J. Snowe, a well-respected centrist from Maine. Known for being at the center of every policy debate in Washington, this is a senator who needs to hear from you.

You can call Sen. Snowe at her Washington DC office: (202) 224-5344.

Your voices are being heard. Keep using them!

Sincerely,

Child Abuse Law in Wisconsin

Article here.  Finally, somebody with enough balls to tell the truth and is trying to pass a law about it.  There are thousands of studies and data to prove this without question - yet it will be political suicide for this guy to try and get this passed.  Watch what happens. Excerpt:

'In Wisconsin, a state senator has introduced a bill aimed at penalizing single mothers by calling their unmarried status a contributing factor in child abuse and neglect.

Senate Bill 507, introduced by Republican Senator Glenn Grothman, moves to amend existing state law by "requiring the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board to emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect."'

Same-sex custody battle could change Florida law

Article here. Again, the Feminist-PC Hooey Machine (I have now hybridized them into one joint acronym: "FPCHM") has no idea what to do when there isn't a man/father around either to blame or exploit. Excerpt:

'TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) — A custody battle in Florida between two lesbians could fuel the growing national debate over the definition of motherhood.

It also might force state lawmakers to reconsider a 19-year-old law regarding the rights of sperm and egg donors.
...
But the Brevard County couple separated two years later, and the birth mother eventually left Florida with the child without telling her former lover. The woman who donated the egg and calls herself the biological mother finally tracked them down in Australia with the help of a private detective.
...

"But it does solidify gay couples' right to retain a relationship with their child," she said. "If it goes the other way, parenthood could be subject to risk on the whim of the other partner."

Gay men vs lesbians and the right to express affection

Syndicated columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr. recently wrote this piece regarding the 'controversy' over the return of a gay US Marine and the reception he received, which included the kissing of his sweetheart, who in fact turned out to be a man. But what Mr. Pitts may not have known about was that a gay military couple had already done the same thing back in 2011 almost immediately after "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was abolished. Only in that case, the couple was female, the reception was official, and there was not a peep of outrage or controversy over it.

SAVE Advisory: Women Against VAWA Excess

Women Against VAWA Excess – WAVE – is dedicated to exposing how the Violence Against Women Act has veered away from its original intended purpose to stop domestic violence. Now, VAWA has come to embrace a radical ideology that marginalizes true victims, harms families, and betrays the ideals of equality feminism.

WAVE invites persons to visit its website, which features articles by Wendy McElroy, Anna Rittgers, and others: http://womenagainstvawa.org/

WAVE also sponsors a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/WomenAgainstVAWAExcess?sk=wall. We invite women to drop by and share your experiences and concerns about VAWA and with the domestic violence programs in your area.

Mums should be allowed to terminate new babies - article

This article here from Australia beggars belief.

Apparently, a woman's 'right to choose' should include choosing to terminate a baby, after it is born, according to some philosophers. Apparently though, that's only the mother - fathers don't even get a mention.

I'd comment; but to be honest, I'm lost for words.... Quote:

'KILLING newborn babies should be allowed if the mother wishes, Australian philosophers have argued in a prestigious journal.

Their argument, that it is morally the same as abortion, has forced the British Medical Journal to defend its publication of their views.

In an article that has sparked outrage around the world and elicited death threats, Monash University's Alberto Giubilini and the University of Melbourne's Francesca Minerva say that a foetus and a newborn both lack a sense of life and aspiration.

See the Controversial Photo of a Dad Bottle-Feeding His Baby

Article here. Excerpt:

'Breastfeeding activists in New Zealand raised so much of a stink over an ad featuring a dad bottle-feeding his baby that the New Zealand government actually decided to edit the image above out of the ad.

While the government's decision could be viewed as a victory for La Leche League, which protested the ad, some observers have concluded that the decision is a sad day for dads. If a father is going to be involved in the feeding of his new baby, it's only going to happen through a bottle. Even in many families where the baby is drinking breast milk exclusively, Mom is often pumping milk to allow others -- including Dad -- to feed the baby breast milk through a bottle. So, to state the obvious: An ad showing a dad bottle-feeding a baby doesn't mean that the child isn't drinking breast milk. (We won't get into the fact that parents should be allowed to make feeding choices without being judged.)'

Vigil at the British Medical Association

Article here. Although the number of boys circumcised in the UK is low by USA levels there is still much public anger at the practice. The reason for the vigil was that the B.M.A. was discussing ethics and once again the non-therapeutic cutting of boy’s genitals was not on the agenda. Excerpt:

'Men Do Complain held a vigil on Wednesday 22nd of February outside the B.M.A. Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9JP. We got there at 08:30 and stayed until the rain, cold and wind overcame us. The reason for the vigil was that the B.M.A. were discussing ethics and once again the non-therapeutic cutting of boy’s genitals was not on the agenda. The vigil went very well the public really are on our side. Several circumcised men approached us and quite openly said that they were glad someone was taking a stand. One surprise was the number of friendly car hoots and we didn’t even have a sign saying hoot if you agree.'
