New charges for stalker of Yankee GM

Article here. Excerpt:

'NEW YORK -- A woman accused of stalking and shaking down New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman peppered him and his office with odd phone calls, posing as other people and disguising her voice as a man's, a new indictment says.

Louise Neathway also called Cashman's estranged wife, according to the indictment, obtained Monday. The indictment adds a slew of charges to the initial stalking, grand larceny and harassment counts Neathway has faced since her February arrest.

Neathway, a 36-year-old medical sales worker originally from Great Britain, now also is contending with charges that range from lying about her income on an application for her Manhattan apartment to lying to the grand jury -- and from squeezing Cashman for thousands of dollars to harassing her ex-husband and another man.

British teen rape PSA goes too far, critics say

Article here. Excerpt:

'A new ad campaign aimed at British youth is causing critics to claim the shock value of one public service announcement goes too far, with many others saying the "shocking" ad is necessary to open eyes.

In the ad, as part of the "This Is Abuse" campaign, a young man is seen forcing himself on a young girl in a bedroom. As she tries to resist, the teenage boy continues to advance on her.

The hook comes near the end, when a carbon copy of the boy is seen screaming at "himself" to stop. Viewers are then prompted to ask themselves, "If you could see yourself, would you see rape?"

The Huffington Post reports that the ads are aimed to British teenagers aged 13-18 years old. The PSAs typically run during shows geared toward that age range.'

High court rules against man strip-searched over traffic violation

Article here. Something tells me if it was a woman the Supreme Court would have came to a different decision. Excerpt:

'Washington (CNN) -- A New Jersey man who was strip searched in prison after being accused of failing to pay a traffic fine lost his Supreme Court appeal Monday.

The 5-4 divided court found two county jails "struck a reasonable balance between inmate privacy and the needs of the (correctional) institution."

The conservative majority concluded a "reasonable suspicion" standard could be applied when conducting examinations of newly admitted prisoners.
...
Albert Florence said he was subjected to what he called a pair of intrusive, humiliating searches six years ago.'

'The Dumbest Law In Illinois'

Article here. Excerpt:

'I’m no fan of “father’s rights” attorneys. I think that they are just marketers who prey on the fears of Dads (or in some case Moms) who are worried about losing their kids or not seeing them as much as they want.

Despite me cringing when I hear one of these Dad’s rights commercials, there is a law that really screws some fathers that needs to be changed.

In Illinois, if you sign the birth certificate to a child and don’t reverse that within 75 days of doing so, you are legally the Dad. That’s it. So if your wife sleeps with her boss and gets pregnant (as happened to a recent caller to my office), and you sign the birth certificate, you are on the hook for child support for that kid. If you get a paternity test later on that shows you aren’t the father, you are out of luck.

Jackie Mason assulted, girlfriend arrested

'It was no laughing matter for Jackie Mason.

The elderly stand-up comedian called cops early today after he and a gal pal got into a tiff in his apartment and he wound up scratched on his arm, law-enforcement sources said.

The 48-year-old woman, Kaoru Suzuki- McMullen, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault.

Mason, who cops said is 83, was at his W. 57th St. apartment with Suzuki-McMullen, who they described as his girlfriend, at 6:30 a.m. when they got into an argument, according to law-enforcement sources.

Mason wanted her to leave, and he grabbed his cellphone to call the doorman, the sources said.

Suzuki-McMullen tried to take the phone from his hands, and he suffered scratches and bruises on his left wrist in the struggle, sources said.'

Mother Faces Possible Jail Time For Baptizing Children

Article here. Interesting case. My own commentary is in the Comments section. Excerpt:

'NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Shelby County mother is facing contempt-of-court charges and possible jail time for baptizing her two children without the knowledge or consent of her ex-husband.

This week the Tennessee Court of Appeals said Lauren Jarrell must face a criminal contempt hearing for violating a court order that said major decisions regarding the religious upbringing of her two children should be made jointly with her-ex-husband.

The mother and her ex-husband, Blake Jarrell, are both Christian — he’s a Methodist and she’s a Presbyterian.

Court records say the father thought the children should be baptized once they are older. He has asked that his ex-wife be found in criminal contempt for baptizing the children without his knowledge or permission.'

Texas nurse convicted in bleach deaths case

Story here. Excerpt:

'LUFKIN, Texas - A former Texas nurse accused of killing five of her patients and injuring five others by injecting bleach into their kidney dialysis tubing was found guilty of capital murder Friday.

Kimberly Clark Saenz, 38, was fired in April 2008 after a rash of illnesses and deaths at a Lufkin dialysis clinic run by Denver-based health care giant DaVita Inc. She was charged a year later.

Her trial began March 5. Defense lawyers argued that Saenz was being targeted by the clinic's owner for faulty procedures at the facility, including improper water purification. They also suggested that officials at the clinic, about 125 miles northeast of Houston, fabricated evidence against Saenz. Prosecutors described claims Saenz was being set up by her employer as "absolutely ridiculous."

The mother of two now faces life in prison or a death sentence as the case moved to the punishment phase. Prosecutors had said they would seek the death penalty if Saenz was convicted.'

F&F: Call Shared Parenting Legislation Sponsors

Article here (scroll to about half-way down the page). Excerpt:

'At least 30% of Massachusetts representatives and senators are currently sponsors of proposed shared parenting legislation. If you live in their district, please call them or email their office.

First, thank them for backing the one solution that prominent and respected experts in child development have shown through research that children ardently desire; makes them happier; improves their schooling; decreases delinquency, gang violence and trouble with the law; decreases substance abuse and teen pregnancy; increases child support compliance; diminishes parental conflict and domestic violence; and has been endorsed by 86% of Massachusetts voters in a 2004 ballot referendum. It is not only free to the taxpayer, but would actually save millions of dollars.

Two teachers caught taunting disabled boy

Report here. Cruelty as you can see is an equal opportunity employer. As sad as this is, I have heard of much worse, and the perps have come from both sets of the sexes. I can't help but think they would have been a lot slower to act this way had the child been female. Excerpt:

'wo Alabama teachers were caught cruelly taunting and abusing a 10-year-old boy who has celebral palsy after the boy’s mother attached an audio recorder to his wheelchair.

The shocking recording captures two voices chiding Jose Salinas for his ‘disgusting’ drooling and reveals he was left alone with no instruction for long periods of time.

'Why is my paper wet?' a female teacher is heard demanding on the tape. 'Look at me and answer. That's not an answer. That's not even a word.'
...
'Do you seen anybody else at this table drooling? Then, stop,' she said. 'You have got drool all over your face and it is gross.'
