'That’s the view of Carol Tindall, chairman of the Cockermouth-based West Cumbria Rape Crisis Unit, who spoke out after two women admitted making up rape claims in Carlisle, sparking huge police investigations and fear on city streets.
Takara Jayne Harding, 18, of Low Meadow, Raffles, Carlisle, pretended she had been the victim of a terrifying sex attack in a Carlisle car park and was in court on Monday where she was given a suspended prison sentence.
A week earlier, Chloe Jayne Fox, 20, of Spencer Street, admitted she had lied when she said she had been dragged into an alley and brutally raped.
Ms Tindall said: “It’s detrimental. It puts the police to a lot of trouble and effort. It devalues true victim and gives them a hard time.

'The Paycheck Fairness Act failed to become law in the 111th Congress, when the House and Senate had overwhelming Democratic majorities and President Obama, in his State of the Union Address, called the bill "common sense."
Why?
The act is based on a misapplied statistic, that women earn 77 cents on a man's dollar. This is true when comparing all women's wages with all men's wages, but not when comparing men and women with the same experience in the same job. The 77 cent statistic combines men and women who work in different jobs with different numbers of hours. When job, experience, and hours of work are taken into account, rigorous economic studies show women make about the same as men—95 cents on a man's dollar.
When women believe they are the victims of discrimination, they have many laws under which to seek justice, such as the Equal Pay Act, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and the Civil Rights Act.

'Feminists have long wanted enlightened government officials, rather than the indifferent market, to determine salaries. Information collection and government-compensation guidelines today could easily become regulations and mandates tomorrow.
Such meddling would be disastrous for the economy, but men particularly should be warned: Bureaucrats micromanaging compensation standards will mean many male workers should expect a pay cut.
We've seen how this works. Soon Democrats will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Title IX as a triumph for women's equality, but mothers of would-be wrestlers and male gymnasts know this well-intentioned law has a darker history.

'Simon Marcus, a charity boss appointed to investigate the riots, has launched a blistering attack on the Government, local councils and police for being “in denial” about the gang culture behind the unrest.
...
Writing in the Spectator, he said few are willing to admit that an “epidemic of father absence” had lead to a vacuum which is now filled by dangerous gangs that give young people security, identity, loyalty and money.
“Many may be in denial of this reality - but in many parts of our country this culture now owns the streets and last August it simply did what it says on the tin,” he said.
...
He said the problem was made worse when councils fail to address the problem directly and identified a “local government culture of psychobabble”.'

'Money is more important than a parent. We don’t express this view by our words, of course. But our actions scream it loudly.
Fathers and Families of Ohio is working with legislators to provide a fast, low-cost, effective way for nonresidential parents to have their court-ordered parenting time enforced. It is a scandal that we have a multi-billion dollar bureaucracy to enforce financial child support orders and, yet, we leave parents whose time with their children is denied on their own, with demonstrably ineffective, but very costly, mechanisms for protecting their relationship with their children.'

'For years, I have felt a general feeling of isolation and rejection. However, it's perhaps only over the last few years that the extent of how much of this is actually real has been dawning on me. For I have come to realize, not just how discriminated against and oppressed I have been, but how I have been brainwashed into believing that it is somehow acceptable and, even, justified.
...
Why have things been allowed to get so bad? Well, perhaps it's not easy to stand up to this kind of insidious hostility if we are alone, isolated and lack the tools and language to respond in a constructive way. It's time that this started to change.'

I'm learning that politics is a lot like sales; people will say what they need to say to close the deal. Yesterday, that practice hit a little too close to home.
During the May 8, 2012 mark-up of the House Judiciary Committee, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) made unfounded, scurrilous, and false statements regarding Stop Abusive and Violent Environments and Natasha Spivack, a member of the SAVE Board of Directors. See: http://www.saveservices.org/2012/05/save-demands-apology-from-rep-zoe-lofgren/
SAVE, who are not a group of "apologists for abusers," has demanded that Rep. Lofgren retract her remarks about SAVE, issue an apology to Natasha, and begin to work for ways to stop false allegations of domestic violence. As of this writing SAVE has not received a reply, so we're asking for your help.
Call Rep. Lofgren (202) 225-3072 and repeat the same demand:

'Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) is a victim-advocacy organization working for evidence-based solutions to the problem of domestic violence. Stop Violent and Abusive Environments supports the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
SAVE advocates for all victims of domestic violence, regardless of their race, sex, or gender identity. Unfortunately, false claims of domestic violence and sexual assault have become widespread, a problem that robs true victims of desperately needed services, protections, and credibility. Letter sent by NCFM:
'Dear National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges,
Your Checklist for judges uses sex-specific language with regard to domestic violence, referring only to "fathers" but not to mothers.
www.ncjfcj.org/resource-library/publications/checklist-promote-perpetrator-accountability-dependency-cases
As an organization that works with male victims of domestic abuse, we are concerned that this language stereotypes fathers and keeps female perpetration invisible as usual.

'Doctors should screen all of their female patients for signs of partner violence, whether face-to-face or through a waiting room questionnaire, a new report suggests.
The review of the current evidence on screening for partner abuse, from researchers at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, is the first step toward new recommendations on screening from the government-sponsored United States Preventive Services Task Force.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, close to three in 10 U.S. women have experienced rape, stalking or physical violence by a partner. Other studies suggest as many as half of women will experience psychological aggression from an intimate partner at some point in their lives.'

'Washington, DC/May 8, 2012 — States that enacted mandatory arrest policies saw a 60 percent increase in intimate partner homicides, according to a Harvard U. study. Now, Stop Abusive and Violent Environments (SAVE) is calling on lawmakers involved in the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to halt funding for such lethal policies.
Beginning in 1994, VAWA pushed states to change their domestic violence arrest standards from probable cause to the more aggressive mandatory arrest policy. Under mandatory arrest, the accused person is taken away in handcuffs if the police are called, even in the absence of evidence of physical violence.
VAWA’s 2005 reauthorization did away with the mandatory arrest language, but states continued to enforce these harmful policies. SAVE insists that the House of Representatives insert language in its version of VAWA that would stop taxpayer funding of arrest without probable cause.'

'A 28-year-old woman is accused of cutting off a man's penis during a fatal stabbing in a Dallas motel room Saturday, according to police documents.
Cristal Paulette Richardson (right) faces a murder charge in the gruesome death of Cedric Lamont Owens, 34. He was found dead in a room at a Motel 6 in the 8500 block of East R.L. Thornton Freeway about 5:20 p.m., police said.
Motel video surveillance showed Richardson one day earlier renting the room alone. About 4 on Saturday, a security guard said he heard man and woman "in a loud verbal and physical disturbance" in the third-floor room, police said.'

'Earlier this week, a damning report by Stonewall revealed that UK healthcare is failing men – especially gay men. But what's new? From divorce, circumcision and paternal rights to domestic violence and a failing education system, boys and men are also victims of sexual discrimination.
Now, finally, a men's movement is gathering pace. Here, in a bid to silence the bigots who dismiss misandry, we spoke to Professor David Benatar about his vital new book The Second Sexism, which is out next month.'

'A Naperville woman who had consensual sex with a man, then later accused him of rape, has been charged with disorderly conduct for filing a false police report, Aurora police said.
Sarah C. Eschbach, 22, turned herself in Thursday night after a warrant was issued for her arrest, police said.
On March 26, Eschbach told police she had been sexually assaulted by a 21-year-old Aurora man she knew at his apartment, police said. But a police investigation revealed the two engaged in consensual sex and no assault had taken place.
Eschbach was being held in the DuPage County Jail on $1,500 bail.'
