'FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- A woman has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report after she claimed she was the victim of a sexual attack at Main Beach on May 30.

Jennifer Riechert, 32, was arrested Friday and was being held in the Nassau County Jail on $15,000 bond, according to a release from the Fernandina Beach Police Department.

Detectives found that the incident did not happen, and Riechert has since recanted her claim. Riechert purposely misidentified a man she described as homeless as her attacker.'

'OTTAWA — In a family court case to be ruled on soon, a judge will, in part, decide whether a 38-year-old Ottawa man is too fat to be a dad.

The Royal Ottawa Hospital's family court clinic, which does court-ordered assessments on parents, is now using obesity as a factor when deciding if parents are fit to raise children.

In court filings by child-welfare authorities in the case of an obese Ottawa father who is fighting for custody of his two boys, a doctor at the family court clinic wrote:

"Finally, (father) has struggled with obesity for years, which impacts significantly on most aspects of his life including (his) functioning as a parent. He was short of breath or winded in simply walking short distances about the clinic and he lacks both the mobility and stamina required to keep up with young and active children.'

'A Brooklyn judge was baffled yesterday when a mother who dumped her newborn down a garbage chute said she is looking for work as a home health aide.

Laquasia Wright must hold down a job as part of a deal in which she pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child — but Justice Patricia DiMango was stumped by her career choice.

“That’s probably the least appropriate job for her,” DiMango told Wright and her lawyer. “It defies logic. I don’t think it’s the best choice.”

Wright was 18 when she was charged last year with trying to kill her baby boy by tossing him out with the trash at a Fort Greene housing project.'

'MELBOURNE, Australia -- An Australian judge took the extraordinary step of writing to two children involved in a custody dispute, explaining why he gave sole custody to their mom even though he does not accept her claims that their dad abused them.

Australian Federal Magistrate Tom Altobelli published his decision on the court's website, ordering the boy, 11, and his sister, 6, to live with their mom, and the dad's contact to be restricted to letters and birthday cards.

The judge's letter, which is to be opened once the children turn 14, is a plea that the children renew contact with the father, explaining that their mother's claims he abused them are false.'

On April 4, 2011 without public comment or debate, the Department of Education issued its controversial "Dear Colleague" letter on sex assault. The directive requires federally supported universities to institute numerous changes to their policies and procedures regarding allegations of sexual harassment and sexual violence.

'Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed into law Senate Bill 557, giving biological fathers some rights to their children, even if the mothers were married to other men at the time of a child's birth. The previous 1956 law presumed that a woman's husband is the father of her children, making the husband responsible for their support and denying parental rights to the biological father.

Lawmakers recently passed four bills extending rights to biological fathers. In a statement, Governor Snyder said "children thrive with parental involvement" and said “the legislation promotes increased involvement by making it easier to recognize biological fathers.”'

Article here. First thing they think of is to use it to get the father of the fetus to start paying for the mother's decision to have the baby. I know this is a tough issue for many of us. Point is, as long as a man has no post-conceptive reproductive rights, why should he be legally on the hook for a decision which is not his but entirely hers, yet even before the infant is born? Besides relieving anxiety, the test results might allow women to terminate a pregnancy if the preferred man is not the father — or to continue it if he is.

Men who clearly know they are the father might be more willing to support the woman financially and emotionally during the pregnancy, which some studies suggest might lead to healthier babies.

Stop Abusive and Violent Environments renews its call to the federal agency to safeguard students’ rights rather than seek to curtail them.
