'The first radical shake-up of family courts in decades is under way in the U.K. A dramatic list of consequences will befall any breach of court orders that flout court-endorsed arrangements for the care of children of separated parents. Children’s Minister Tim Loughton will announce that the Children Act 19879, which states that the child comes first in law courts, will be rewritten.
Henceforth the preferred option for the courts will be “the presumption that a child’s welfare is likely to furthered through safe involvement with both parents.” That is, in the absence of abuse, equal parenting, exactly the template we have been patiently awaiting in Canada, will be the default for splitting couples. Furthermore, mothers who refuse to permit access to the children may lose their passports, their driving licences or even their freedom of movement if they fail to comply.

'Fathers who want successful sons should focus on passing on their advice and worldly wisdom rather than their money, a study suggests.
Although boys with wealthier fathers usually grow up to earn higher-than-average incomes themselves, researchers said their parents' money may not be the deciding factor.
Intelligence, advice, work ethic and other "human capital endowments" which sons inherit from their fathers are more important than money in determining how successful they will be, the experts wrote in the Journal of Political Economy.'

'FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- A woman has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report after she claimed she was the victim of a sexual attack at Main Beach on May 30.
Jennifer Riechert, 32, was arrested Friday and was being held in the Nassau County Jail on $15,000 bond, according to a release from the Fernandina Beach Police Department.
Detectives found that the incident did not happen, and Riechert has since recanted her claim. Riechert purposely misidentified a man she described as homeless as her attacker.'

'OTTAWA — In a family court case to be ruled on soon, a judge will, in part, decide whether a 38-year-old Ottawa man is too fat to be a dad.
The Royal Ottawa Hospital's family court clinic, which does court-ordered assessments on parents, is now using obesity as a factor when deciding if parents are fit to raise children.
In court filings by child-welfare authorities in the case of an obese Ottawa father who is fighting for custody of his two boys, a doctor at the family court clinic wrote:
"Finally, (father) has struggled with obesity for years, which impacts significantly on most aspects of his life including (his) functioning as a parent. He was short of breath or winded in simply walking short distances about the clinic and he lacks both the mobility and stamina required to keep up with young and active children.'

'Father's Day can be filled with happiness and precious memories, or it can be a reminder of violence and emotional pain.
In everyday lives affected by domestic violence, victims and family members often will try to balance a violent equation by saying, "But he is such a good dad."
This will be said within the very same sentence that describes a man's horrific acts of violence perpetrated on his family.
Do we expect so little of men in America that changing a diaper or taking a child out for a meal can outweigh the consequences of his abusive behavior?'

'PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Phillies star is among the athletes speaking out against dating violence and domestic abuse in a new public service announcement put out by the White House.
When sports heroes like Jimmy Rollins speak out…
(Rollins: ) “No woman should have to fear abuse. No man should hit a woman for any reason.”
...Vice President Joe Biden wants men and boys to listen up:
(Biden:) “If you strike a woman, you’re not a man, you’re a coward.”
...
(Pres. Obama and montage: ) “Listen up guys, listen up: no one should ever hit a woman. Not their wife, not their girlfriend, not their date.”'

'Police in Mbale have fired teargas and deployed heavily to disperse hooligans forcefully circumcising people on the streets including non-Bamasaba.
The District Police Commander, Michael Angucia Wednesday vowed to crack down the hooligans who are causing insecurity in the town.
“I am not trying to fight the culture of the Bamasaba but the way the practice is handled may cause tribal conflicts. Several people have fled the town, property robbed and business is being paralyzed,” Angucia said.
“We have deployed on the streets to arrest the hooligans,” Angucia added.
He said that several groups of such people have taken advantage of the cultural festival of the Bamasaba to force whoever they suspect to have not been circumcised.'

'One of the most notable risk factors for ethical laxity is one that all of the above offenders share: Being a man. A number of studies demonstrate that men have lower moral standards than women, at least in competitive contexts. For example, men are more likely than women to minimize the consequences of moral misconduct, to adopt ethically questionable tactics in strategic endeavors, and to engage in greater deceit. This pattern is particularly pronounced in arenas in which success has (at least historically) been viewed as a sign of male vigor and competence, and where loss signifies weakness, impotence, or cowardice (e.g., a business negotiation or a chess match). When men must use strategy or cunning to prove or defend their masculinity, they are willing to compromise moral standards to assert dominance.

'A Brooklyn judge was baffled yesterday when a mother who dumped her newborn down a garbage chute said she is looking for work as a home health aide.
Laquasia Wright must hold down a job as part of a deal in which she pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child — but Justice Patricia DiMango was stumped by her career choice.
“That’s probably the least appropriate job for her,” DiMango told Wright and her lawyer. “It defies logic. I don’t think it’s the best choice.”
Wright was 18 when she was charged last year with trying to kill her baby boy by tossing him out with the trash at a Fort Greene housing project.'

'MELBOURNE, Australia -- An Australian judge took the extraordinary step of writing to two children involved in a custody dispute, explaining why he gave sole custody to their mom even though he does not accept her claims that their dad abused them.
Australian Federal Magistrate Tom Altobelli published his decision on the court's website, ordering the boy, 11, and his sister, 6, to live with their mom, and the dad's contact to be restricted to letters and birthday cards.
The judge's letter, which is to be opened once the children turn 14, is a plea that the children renew contact with the father, explaining that their mother's claims he abused them are false.'

On April 4, 2011 without public comment or debate, the Department of Education issued its controversial "Dear Colleague" letter on sex assault. The directive requires federally supported universities to institute numerous changes to their policies and procedures regarding allegations of sexual harassment and sexual violence.
Concerned that the Dept. of Ed. policy fails to protect fundamental constitutional principles, over 50 editorials have criticized the mandate. SAVE and 12 other organizations have issued statements opposing the directive: http://www.saveservices.org/falsely-accused/sex-assault/complaints/
It's been over a year since Dept. of Ed. secretary Arne Duncan starting getting complaints, yet he's still disturbingly silent.
