'It's a hell of a thing putting an unaccompanied kid onto an airline flight. I've done it. For the kid it's hugely exciting (if they're the adventurous sort). For the parent it's a Kafkaesque nightmare of form-filling and fiery hoop-jumping.
...
Right now, every time an airline like Qantas or Virgin moves a male passenger away from an unaccompanied child for no reason other than his being a male, they break the law. Or rather, they breach the Anti-Discrimination Act, for which penalties do apply. If he was drunk, abusive, or maybe if the unaccompanied children's parents or guardians had requested a specific seating arrangement for the flight, then the airlines would be in the clear. (A lawyer will doubtless set me straight on that last one). But to maintain a policy of moving passengers simply on the basis of gender is not legal.

'Washington (CNN) -- An Australian airline's policy prohibiting male passengers from sitting next to kids traveling alone has fueled a social media firestorm and caused the company to review the rule.
...
Virgin Australia's policy to prevent men from sitting next to the unaccompanied minors has supporters, including John Shehan of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States.
...
"We're trying to prevent child victimization," he said. "We know the overwhelming majority of sex offenders are male, so by removing that situation you're lowering the risk."
Australian airline Qantas also has come under fire for a similar policy prohibiting men from sitting next to unaccompanied minors. The airline declined to comment.'

'Over at Jezebel, Katie J. M. Baker has a response to my Bloomberg View column on the gender pay gap that is heavy on personal attacks and light on logic. The first four paragraphs consist of nothing but such attacks and misrepresentations of my argument; the fifth of an excerpt from the column; the sixth goes back to personal attacks. (My face is “smug,” and apparently arouses a desire to “smack” it, at least in feminists who are incapable of mustering actual arguments against what I have to say.)

'The Israel Ambulatory Pediatric Association is calling for an end to a controversial circumcision-related rite that is also under fire in New York.
Direct oral-genital suction, known as metzitzah b’peh, should not be performed during Jewish ritual circumcision, the IAPA said. The association is calling on Israel’s Health Ministry to require maternity wards and clinics to advise parents against metzitzah b’peh, Israeli media reported.
IAPA is recommending that mohels, or ritual circumcisers, use a tube to take the blood from the circumcision wound, preventing direct contact with the infant’s incision.'

'WASHINGTON — The number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement workers who claimed they faced retaliation from superiors has more than doubled since Janet Napolitano took over, according to data obtained by The Post.
The stats — which also show an increase in sexual-harassment claims — come as James Hayes, a senior law-enforcement official, moves ahead with a lawsuit charging he faced a “hostile work environment” in which male employees face discrimination under Napolitano, who oversees ICE as head of Homeland Security.
Hayes, who also said higher-ups created a “frat-house” atmosphere, claims agency bosses tried to intimidate him by opening several investigations of his own conduct after he filed a complaint.'

'It’s a staple of feminist rhetoric: Women make less money than men because of discrimination.
“We’d all like to think, in 2012, that pay discrimination is a thing of the past,” the progressive activist Joy Lawson wrote in the Huffington Post recently. “But the pay gap still exists, and it’s big: women earn an average of 77 cents on a man’s dollar.”
April 17 has been designated Equal Pay Day: Supposedly that’s how long women have to work to catch up to men’s pay from the previous year.
U.S. President Barack Obama has cited a similar statistic to promote legislation to make it easier to sue employers for discrimination. Democrats accuse Republicans who resist such laws of waging a “war on women.” Expect to hear more about the issue during the fall campaign.
Here’s the truth you won’t hear: The pay gap is exaggerated, discrimination doesn’t drive it and it’s not clear that government can eliminate it -- or should even try.'

'Boys learn very quickly growing up they should respond to challenges with violence, says the senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Wollongong.
Dr Flood says: “There’s good evidence that male-on-male violence … is shaped very strongly by codes of manhood based on honour, on pride, on aggression."
“We need culture change. We need change in the way we raise our boys.”
Boys learn to react with violence from their peers, family and culture.
...
“I think we need to complement campaigns about violence against women with ones about men’s violence against men.”'

Today, we're asking you to intervene on behalf of a young father in Maine. Judge Robert E. Murray convicted Vladek Filler and gave him a sentence of 21 days in jail for allegedly pushing his wife Ligia Filler in April 2007. The problem is that the conviction and harsh sentence follow five years, two criminal trials and appeals involving prosecutorial misconduct by Asst. District Attorney Mary E. Kellett.
The charges stem from Filler's child custody dispute, and range from spousal rape to splashing water on his then-wife. The 1st trial court and Maine Supreme Court found prosecutor Mary N. Kellett had engaged in misconduct. The divorce court granted Filler sole custody of his children, found his wife made false allegations and was a violent child abuser.

'More than 1.2 million infant boys undergo the surgery each year, making the United States one of the industrialized world’s leading producers of circumcised men. But the once ubiquitous practice, in which the foreskin is removed from the penis, is waning.
From a high of about 80 percent in the 1960s, the portion of baby boys leaving hospitals with petroleum-jelly-covered wounds in their diapers dropped to 56 percent in 2008, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (The figures do not include those circumcised in outside clinics or by religious providers.)
The downward trend is probably fueled by Medicaid laws in many states that have stopped paying for the surgery, increased immigration from Latin America and other areas were circumcision is less common, and a growingly vocal cadre of so-called “intactivists” who argue that the practice is a human rights violation.'

'Men can legally challenge the paternity on the grounds of fraud, mistake or misrepresentation following the 2011 amendment to Chapter 161 of the Texas Family Code.
The new law enables a man who has previously been named as the biological father of a child in a court order or has signed an acknowledgment of paternity to challenge his paternity by filing a petition in court to terminate his parental rights after later discovering the fraud.
In order to successfully challenge paternity under the new law, a man must file a verified petition, after which the court will hold a pre-trial hearing to determine whether the man has a justifiable reason for not previously questioning his paternity. The court then will order genetic testing.'

'The statistics tell the story — boys are losing out when it comes to education.
On a number of counts, the evidence suggests that more young men than women are experiencing difficulties with school.
They appear to be less engaged and eventually drop out before graduation at a higher rate than girls.
Theories and proposed solutions abound, but one common element among experts is the education system needs an overhaul for the so-called “boy crisis” to be resolved.
Two local women in the masters of education program at Thompson Rivers University have come up with one way to address the problem: get kids moving.'

'1. Against Their Nature: Wouldn't it strike you as strange if a tiger suddenly turned vegetarian? This is because it is against their basic nature. In the same way, feminism is against the basic nature of men and that is why women hate men who claim to be upholders of women's rights.
2. Traitors To Their Own Cause: The types of men who start calling themselves feminists are seen as 'traitors' among men folk. Generally, men despise male feminists much more than they despise female feminists. How do you trust someone who has betrayed their own kind? If they have betrayed their own gender that is men, they might as well betray you.

'(CBS/AP) HOKENDAUQUA, Pa. - Na Cola Darcel Franklin spent her weekend in jail when she was supposed to be celebrating her first days as a newlywed. She is accused of killing her fiancé at their eastern Pennsylvania apartment hours before they were to get married.
Franklin, 31, was charged with criminal homicide Saturday morning in the stabbing death of 36-year-old Billy Brewster in their Whitehall Township apartment. She seemed unable to grasp her fiancé's death during her arraignment by video from jail Saturday, when she reportedly pleaded to the judge, "You got to check again!"
District Judge Donna Butler told her that Brewster had been pronounced dead earlier, to which Franklin wailed and covered her face in her hands. When asked if she understood the homicide charge against her, Franklin wept and choked out the words one at a time.
"I ... did ... not ... kill ... him ... on ... purpose," she said, according to the Morning Call newspaper.'
