Romney is president of white male America

'Team Romney has every reason to be shellshocked. Its candidate, after all, resoundingly won the election of the country he was wooing.

Mitt Romney is the president of white male America.

Maybe the group can retreat to a man cave in a Whiter House, with mahogany paneling, brown leather Chesterfields, a moose head over the fireplace, an elevator for the presidential limo, and one of those men’s club signs on the phone that reads: “Telephone Tips: ‘Just Left,’ 25 cents; ‘On His Way,’ 50 cents; ‘Not here,’ $1; ‘Who?’ $5.”'

Op-Ed: Obama vs. Romney decides the issue — Women are smarter than men

Article here. Excerpt:

'To begin, I get that Republicans are not likely to buy this argument but some Democrats might so I'm putting it out there - women are smarter than men and their support of Barack Obama over Mitt Romney cinches it.

Now poll after poll in the States, both nationally and in the states themselves, show a big reason Barack Obama has a high likelihood of serving his country as president a second term is the support he gets from women. If women only voted, President Obama would win with electoral college numbers north of 325.

Women: intelligence to support Obama

That support of Obama shows women have a greater intelligence than us males when it comes to assessing a situation. Women are not simply reacting to the 'now', though the 'now' in the U.S. is ever-improving, but are taking into account conditions in America when Obama took office. It was a bleak and economically fragile time in the U.S., indeed, next to the Great Depression the most difficult economic times the nation has seen.'

More women have driver's licenses than men in US

Article here. Excerpt:

'WASHINGTON (AP) - Women have passed men on the nation's roads. More women than men now have driver's licenses, a reversal of a longtime gender gap behind the wheel that transportation researchers say is likely to have safety and economic implications.
...
"The changing gender demographics will have major implications on the extent and nature of vehicle demand, energy consumption, and road safety," predicted Michael Sivak, co-author of the study. Women are more likely than men to purchase smaller, safer and more fuel-efficient cars; to drive less, and to have a lower fatality rate per distance driven, he said.

Over the 15 years the study covered, the share of men ages 25 to 29 years old with driver's licenses dropped 10.6 percent. The share of women of the same age with driver's licenses declined by about half that amount, 4.7 percent.

What the 2012 Election Means for Women and for Feminism

Article here. Excerpt:

'The main takeaway for feminists in all this is simple: Feminism wins at the ballot box, especially if you’re looking at a high voter turnout election like this one. While our opposition is loud and powerful, the reality is that we’ve been making our arguments for decades to the public, and it looks like the public actually agrees, even if the word “feminist” continues to be treated like a dirty word. It’s not just that candidates who protect and expand women’s rights won, but candidates who revealed the ugly streak of misogyny lurking under a feigned concern for “life”—such as Richard Mourdock and Todd Akin—grossed the voters out, and were voted down in elections they would have easily won if they could have restrained themselves.

'How to put an end to the cycle of creating defective men'

Article here. Excerpt:

'YOU'D have to say it's a theme in the culture - the outrageous mistreatment of girls at Sydney University's St John's College, which almost took the life of a student there this year. The scandal that shook the Australian Defence Force Academy over sexual violations present and past, and similar problems right across the defence forces. And of course the recurring sagas involving sportsmen's behaviour towards women.

We are only just coming to grips with our tendency to create generations of defective men. That this happens in places that are the incubators of our nation's political, legal and business leaders, means it couldn't be more urgent.

Female principal tells student she 'looks like a porn star'

Link here. Excerpt:

'An outraged US father has launched a public shame campaign after a school principal told his teenage daughter that she looked like a porn star.

Steven Werner said the comments came after his 15-year-old daughter arrived at her Michigan school in a Halloween costume which included a black skirt and knee-high black stockings with pink bows.

Mr Werner said his daughter was called into Principal Janet Jones’s office because of the outfit.

"She said to my daughter, 'Honey, you look like a porn star'. My daughter said, 'What do you mean a porn star?' She goes, 'You know, a porn star. You know what those people do?' My daughter said no," he said.

Mr Werner said the principal then explained to his daughter what a porn star was and what they did for a living.'

Great Expectations: Women Should Demand Payback for Helping President Obama

Article here. Excerpt:

'It's time to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, a simple sentence that says it all:

Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Why do we need the Equal Rights Amendment? Last year, I asked Rep. Carolyn Maloney (who was reelected this week also) this same question. Here's what she told me:

Laws can be repealed. Judicial attitudes can shift. We continue to see demonstrable cases of systemic gender discrimination -- even in this day and age, when women have come so far. Establishing the clear unambiguous language of the Equal Rights Amendment into the U.S. Constitution would have a real impact on our national consciousness. Our democracy rests on the principle of 'liberty and justice for all.' We need the ERA to ensure that this concept applies equal to women.

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) regularly reintroduces the Equal Rights Amendment to Congress, only to see it languish.'

Sweden: Boys fall further behind girls in school: report

Article here. Excerpt:

'"We are worried about these results," Christina Sandström at the agency told The Local on Thursday.

“We have known for a long time that girls have better school results than boys. What is new is that the results are increasing. There has always been a gap, but now it is bigger,” Sandström explained.

On Wednesday, Skolverket published the school results of this summer’s ninth-year students. These results showed that girls’ school results were an average of 223.8 (out of 320), whereas boys scored an average of 199.5.

The statistics also showed that more girls qualified for high school (gymnasiet) programmes than boys.

Skolverket concluded that though results are improving for most student groups, boys with a foreign background and boys with less educated parents are actually performing worse.

“I do not begrudge any success for the girls, but it would be terribly serious to lose a generation of boys and immigrants,” Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) told the TT news agency.'

'Circumcision Goes Horribly Wrong'

Article here. Excerpt:

'EDINBURG, Texas (CN) - A doctor botched a circumcision of a 4-year-old boy so badly that the boy pleaded to "just cut it off and (he) can be a girl," the parents claim in court.

Rafael and Vanessa Deleon sued Dr. Jennifer J. Garza, of McAllen, in Hidalgo County Court. They claim they learned from specialists that Garza over-cauterized the penis to try to stop the bleeding, damaging their son's urethra and requiring reconstructive surgery to close the holes.

But after the 90-minute surgery, the Deleons claim Garza told them, "'the circumcision was successful.' She also told them that 'there was a little bleeding, but that she and her staff were able to stop it,'" according to the complaint.

Is America Ready for a White, Male Secretary of State?

Article here. Excerpt:

'The Secretary of State job requires both tenacity and restraint, both of which may be difficult for a man's unique chemical constitution. The male hormone testosterone, while responsible for such wondrous miracles as back hair and upper body strength, is also responsible for an increase in male aggression, anger, and even violence. Diplomacy is a difficult enough task without having to temper a man's natural tendency to throw chairs through windows when angered by gridlock.

Further, it's a well-known fact that men's lack of intuition and emotional intelligence has translated into a troubling inability to cry under appropriate circumstances. War, death, and destruction are horrifying realities that Secretaries of State from Madeleine Albright to Condoleezza Rice have had to face, and an insufficient emotional response to tragedy will reflect poorly on our country. Do we want our allies to think we're a bunch of callous jerks who are totally unmoved by the death of innocents?'

Boardroom gender quotas are dangerous, says Burberry boss Angela Ahrendts

Article here. Excerpt:

'Burberry boss Angela Ahrendts has dismissed the idea of quotas to boost the number of women in the boardroom as "dangerous", despite growing evidence of discrimination in the business world and the prospect of just two female chief executives in the FTSE 100 next year.

Asked if she was in favour of the imposition of quotas, Ahrendts said on Wednesday: "I'm not. I think it's dangerous … Whether it's countries or companies, it's about putting the best person in the job who can unite people and create value. A man could do this job just as well as I can."

The American, who took the helm at the British fashion brand six years ago, added that it was not an issue that she fretted about: "I don't spend a lot of time thinking about this, what with three kids, running the company and being flat out busy."
...
Pointing to the growing number of female university graduates, Ahrendts suggested it was just a matter of time before the gender balance improved.'

Violence Against Women Act – The Real War on Women

Article here. Excerpt:

'For months now we’ve heard about the “War on Women” that’s sometimes called the “Republican War on Women.” While close inspection of the claim reveals the WOW to be little more than an election-year bid to keep female voters in the Democratic fold, there is a real war on women and up until this year, it’s been bi-partisan. It’s called the Violence Against Women Act.

How could VAWA, long touted by the domestic violence establishment as vital to women’s welfare, in fact be anti-woman? Let me count the ways.
