Flawed Violence Against Women Act Could Become Next Lame-Duck Fight

Article here. Excerpt:

'As the lame-duck session of Congress grinds to a close, policymakers are feeling the pressure to rush passage of a number of expansive, potentially faulty pieces of legislation before the year’s end. Recent rumors swirling around Washington suggest the House may consider anew language in a Senate-passed version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) reauthorization in the next few weeks.

Despite the original law’s good intentions to support female victims of violence, recent reauthorizations—including those before Congress—are seriously flawed and have steered the law away from its original intent of protecting vulnerable women.'

UK: Pro-men party has Harriet in its sights

Story here. Excerpt:

'Male rights campaigners are setting up an anti-feminist political party and plan to stand against Harriet Harman and other prominent feminists at the next General Election.

The ‘men power’ is being orchestrated by Mike Buchanan, 55, a former business consultant who opposes tokenism and says ‘our political elite has become detached from reality with its state-sponsored feminism’.

Mr Buchanan is not some fruitcake of the Monster Raving Loony party ilk. A bookish fellow from Bath, full of statistics, he has recently given evidence to a parliamentary select committee.

He has also been interviewed on Radio 4 and has spoken at political party conference fringe events about the Establishment’s demands for more women in boardrooms.'

"Breadwinner women" idea bothers feminists

Article here. Excerpt:

'She was celebrated as a feminist success story, lifted aloft for shifting the gender imbalance in women’s favour, for showing that providing financially for ones’ family is no longer just a man’s job.
...
But cultural anxieties about what this shift means for the workplace, for parenting and, especially, for men meant successful women were as torn as ever. The female breadwinner talk became all about men and their inevitable decline.

In her book The End of Men and the Rise of Women, Hanna Rosin, a senior editor at The Atlantic, argued that “at this unprecedented moment, women are no longer merely gaining on men; they have pulled decisively ahead in every measure,” and lit a match under the simmering gender wars, angering a surprising cohort: Feminists themselves.

"Cops: Woman, 50, Battered Boyfriend, 32, Because Six Came Before Nine"

Story here. Notice how TSG makes light of the attack via their headline. Wouldn't see this if the sexes were reversed. Excerpt:

'A Florida woman is jailed on a battery rap for allegedly striking her boyfriend after he “finished first and stopped pleasuring her” during a mutual oral sex session late last night in the victim’s home, police report.

Jennie Scott, 50, was booked into the Manatee County lockup on a misdemeanor charge stemming from the 11 PM encounter in the Palmetto bedroom of Jilberto Deleon, 32. Scott has dated Deleon “for the last 5 years on and off,” according to a sheriff’s report.

Deputies were summoned to Deleon’s home by a witness who heard the couple arguing and saw Scott (seen at right) atop Deleon “punching and scratching him.” She also allegedly struck Deleon with a stick and threatened to hit him with a wrench before the tool was taken from her hand by the witness.'

The Dark Side of Feminism - Why Women Don't Like Powerful Women

Article here. Excerpt:

'It would have been better if she had dark circles under her eyes. Maybe a little bit of flab around the middle. At the very least a stain on her blouse – anything. Instead, in her first public appearance since the birth of her son, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was as slim and blonde as ever, beaming at the cameras.

"The baby's been easy," she said – no problem at all. How shocking!

Women all over America and the world followed Mayer’s appointment as head of the Internet giant Yahoo, and then early this fall the birth of her first child. Remembering their own tough first few months with a new baby, many young mothers wondered how she would manage. Very well, thank you, as it turns out. And that did not go down well at all.

US Soldier Suicides Outnumber Combat Deaths In 2012

Article here. Excerpt:

'WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – American soldier suicides continue to outnumber combat-related deaths in 2012, and the trajectory for soldier suicides continues to get worse.

Statistics released by the Department of the Army show that through November potentially 303 active-duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers committed suicide. As of Dec. 7, Stars and Stripes reports that 212 soldiers have died in combat-related deaths in Afghanistan.

The Army set a grim new record of 177 potential active-duty cases with 2012 coming to a close on Tuesday – 64 of these cases remain under investigation, 113 have been confirmed.'

"Empowered young women don’t want to be called ‘feminist’"

Article here. Excerpt:

'The trailblazers — Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, to name two heavy lifters — believed that women should have the same legal and civil protections as men without discrimination. As Stanton said in 1854 when she addressed the New York Legislature, “We ask no better laws than those you have made for yourselves. We need no other protection than that which your present laws secure to you.” You might call these first feminists “equity feminists”: They sought equality before the law.

Australia: Role model program aims to help boys to be boys

Article here. Excerpt:

'A BOYS' welfare project started by Menai Public School is helping children reconnect and engage in their learning.

The Boys Initiatives Program was established to address the needs of male pupils.

Targeted at grades 3-6, it aims to identify children who could most benefit from male role models, including children at risk of behavioural problems.

The idea was launched this year when the school realised there was a need for boys to be involved in activities that were separate from the classroom.

It involved pupils doing male-supervised activities including bike-riding and skateboard riding, which teach communication, co-operation and resilience.'

'Perfect 10? Never Mind That. Ask Her for Her Credit Score'

Article here. Great idea. These days, you don't want to get stuck with someone who may be both financially irresponsible or unwilling to pull her own financial weight. Traditionally, men have been expected to supply the cash and/or ignore or tolerate their wife's/fiancee's/gf's financial irresponsibilities or ignorance. No more. (But guess who's still largely expected to pay for the dates?) And if she won't talk about her credit score or seems evasive? Big red flag. Excerpt:

Will new rules help N.J. divorce debate?

Article here. Excerpt:

'Roughly half of U.S. marriages end in divorce. In New Jersey, the real fighting begins when the divorce decree is issued.

On Dec. 1, a group of women in Monmouth County continued a protest of rulings made by Superior Court Judge Paul X. Escandon, who they accuse of being biased against female litigants in divorce cases. The protest marked the second time Escandon’s decisions have been publicly contested: a September demonstration brought more than 40 women to the courthouse entrance.

Meanwhile, a Flemington man has spent seven weeks in jail for "non-support" because his court-mandate alimony payments exceed his income. John Waldorf claims he's a victim of what he says is the state's flawed alimony system.'

Fathers disappear from households across America

Article here. Excerpt:

'In every state, the portion of families where children have two parents, rather than one, has dropped significantly over the past decade. Even as the country added 160,000 families with children, the number of two-parent households decreased by 1.2 million. Fifteen million U.S. children, or 1 in 3, live without a father, and nearly 5 million live without a mother. In 1960, just 11 percent of American children lived in homes without fathers.

America is awash in poverty, crime, drugs and other problems, but more than perhaps anything else, it all comes down to this, said Vincent DiCaro, vice president of the National Fatherhood Initiative: Deal with absent fathers, and the rest follows.
...
"We have one class that thinks marriage and fatherhood is important, and another which doesn’t, and it’s causing that gap, income inequality, to get wider,” Mr. DiCaro said.

Afghan policewoman 'desperate, struggled with mental illness'

Article here. It's all so predictable. Male shooters: evil murderers. Female shooters: mentally disturbed and 'driven' to it. She is a child- and husband-abuser and intended to continue her shooting spree but was stopped by her gun jamming. And yet... we should feel sorry for her. Afghanistan is filled with poor and desperate women, and men. She was lucky even to have some kind of job. But it wasn't good enough-- she needed to berate and abuse her husband and children and then go commit murder. And the MSM peddles the thing as a sob-story. Excerpt:

'The Afghan policewoman suspected of killing a U.S. contractor at police headquarters in Kabul suffered from mental illness and was driven to suicidal despair by poverty, her children told Reuters on Wednesday.
