Two takes on the same camp; from Slate:
A Boys' Camp to Redefine Gender
and from a religious-interest magazine:
Transgender Boy's Camp 'Unnatural,' Restrictive, Say Christian Leaders
Slate:
'Over the past three years, photographer Lindsay Morris has been documenting a four-day camp for gender nonconforming boys and their parents.
...
It is also a place for both parents and children to feel protected in an environment that encourages free expression.
“[The kids] don’t have to look over their shoulders, and they can let down their guard. Those are four days when none of that matters, and they are surrounded by family members who support them,” Morris said.'
CP:
'But Christian leaders disagree, saying the camp might even be forcing these children down an unnatural path.

'The government is ignoring the needs of women offenders with its probation reforms, the Commons Justice Select Committee has said.
Kay, an ex-offender, who has been in prison once after being convicted on a drugs offence, told the Today programme's Justin Webb being in prison "knocks self confidence" and "self belief".
She said "courses and training" would be a much better way to help women who have offended.
Labour peer Baroness Corston, who suggested a number of reforms six years ago, said she was worried the "progress made by the previous government has not only stalled but is in danger of going into reverse".
She said the system now is "perfectly tailored for a man", and added the majority of the women in prison now "shouldn't be there because they are troubled rather than troublesome".'

Story here. Excerpt:
'A woman teacher who inundated a teenage pupil with sex text messages and intimate pictures during a six-week affair has avoided jail.
Roseanna Langley, 24, sent the 16-year-old pictures of her naked and she was planning a tattoo bearing his name.
When the boy tried to cool their romance the science teacher – on the rebound after being dumped by her fiance – claimed she had miscarried his child, Exeter crown court heard.
The pair denied their affair when the head teacher at St James High School in Exeter called in police.
But officers found 1,500 sex texts from Langley on the boy’s mobile and CCTV images showed the couple holding hands in a London hotel where they shared a double bed during a weekend away.
She was sacked by the school after she admitted having sex with the boy, who was not in her class.'

'New Delhi: While the police strive to ensure safety and security of women in the national capital, there seems to be some women who misuse the law for extorting money from people and then threaten them to implicate in ‘false’ rape cases.
One such incident surfaced in Pandav Nagar area of East Delhi where a 40-year-old woman, who is reportedly a complainant in 11 cases of rape, stalking and other sexual offences, was arrested on charges of extortion.
It is ironical that the man who filed the extortion complaint was earlier charged with raping the woman and had been sent to jail.
...
"The previous case under Sections of rape that the woman registered against Sushil was found to be false. On the directions of the court, a case of extortion based on Sushil's complaint was registered and the woman, arrested. She has been sent to 14 days judicial custody," Additional DCP (East) D K Gupta said.

'White, American men are now second-class citizens.
That's the premise of an article Suzanne Venker posted on Fox News last week, a follow-up to her November 2012 piece about the "war on men." In this piece, Venker made a number of pretty astonishing claims about women, public policy and the state of gender equality.
Here are the three most confusing things she wrote:
1. Grade school curricula are based on girls' interests. Hmmm... We'd like to see some data on that, please.

'“In the Doucet case, the claim of an ongoing pattern of spousal abuse was central to her defence,” says James Morton, a former president of the Ontario Bar Association. “So in theory, it should have been proven the way you would prove every other element, with solid evidence. But in reality, claims of past abuse typically are not proven with the same degree of rigour. It’s often merely asserted, and the person whom the allegation is made against has to disprove it. The burden of proof is effectively reversed.”
“It’s in family law cases where you see this a lot,” he adds. “As a practical matter, once the allegation is made by the woman — and it’s usually the woman, though not always — the burden is on the other side, the man, to disprove it. And how do you do that? How do you disprove something that happened months or years ago — stuff that was never complained about at the time?”

Yesterday, Asst. DA Mary Kellett appeared before Maine Supreme Court Justice Ellen Gorman, and admitted to violating rules of the Maine Bar when she prosecuted Vladek Filler on sexual assault charges.
Normally, we'd be thrilled to see this. But there's more. Justice Gorman is expected to announce her decision later this week, to suspend any punishment of Mary Kellett! Yes, you read that right!
We aren't buying the "she has suffered enough" line - we want her disbarred!
Let's speak out for Vladek, his children, and every other person Kellett has unethically put behind bars. Tell the Justice that KELLETT MUST BE DISBARRED.
Contact Justice Gorman TODAY c/o Matthew Pollack, Clerk of the Maine Supreme Court. Phone: (207) 822-4146.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

'More than a dozen women's groups are calling on Governor Chafee to veto legislation approved by the General Assembly that would allow school districts to continue holding "father-daughter" dances and other gender-specific events.
The bill came in response to complaints over Cranston public school's decision to host a "father-daughter" dance for female students and a field trip to a baseball game for male students. In response, the school district cancelled the "father-daughter" dance.
The bill -- S-12A -- amended state law to permit schools "to provide activities for students of one sex provided that reasonably comparable activities are provided for students of the other sex." It was introduced by Sen. Hanna M. Gallo, who is a Cranston Democrat and also a speech pathologist for the Cranston School Department.'

'ANGRY Birds are wingless birds, the stars of the video game sensation where a player uses a slingshot to fling the birds at pigs on a playing field. For those of a certain age, it's apparently fun and addictive. In the same way, if you are a few decades older, there is another version of Angry Birds apparently just as fun and addictive for some.
Also wingless, these birds are women who fling around emotionally charged arguments about misogyny, sexism and discrimination with scant regard for facts. The latest polls reveal women are returning to Labor under Kevin Rudd. While this puts a large dent in the argument that sexism brought down Julia Gillard, don't expect Angry Birds to acknowledge the truth. When rage underpins your ideology, it's hard to let go of that part of your identity. After all, being a Rational Bird doesn't sound much fun.'

'Christine Lagarde used to find them "offensive." Now the first female director of the International Monetary Fund sees gender quotas as a necessary, albeit temporary, tool to help women reach top jobs.
...
Half a century after the European Union’s Treaty of Rome sowed the seeds for gender equality in Europe, Ms. Lagarde’s push for mandatory corporate board quotas for women – which proponents hope will trickle down and improve gender equality throughout workplaces – is gaining momentum, and dividing governments, across the continent.
Last fall, European Union Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding pushed through a proposal for gender quotas for the board of corporations across Europe. Men, she said, continue to dominate top jobs, although women are better educated and the economy needs them. But with German Chancellor Angela Merkel vetoing the idea, whether the 27-member EU Council, the European Union’s legislative body, turns the idea into law this fall remains to be seen.'

'Some alumnae have not given up their fight to keep Wilson College a women's college.
A group of alumnae hope their actions will block or delay the college's decision to open the Chambersburg campus to male residential students in the fall of 2014. College-age men can commute this fall for the first time to classes at Wilson.
Alumnae are prepared to go to court to force the board of trustees to revisit its decision.
In the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office, they have challenged the change to the school's charter.
And through their attorney, they have sent the trustees a letter warning of a potential lawsuit.'

Simply don’t treat women as a lower human category to you and you’re fine and dandy. Several famous men have messed up recently with woeful chauvinist blunderings. Let’s examine where they went wrong.'
