'In-hospital paternity acknowledgements are a cornerstone of government policy and a requirement for any state seeking TANF funds. Establishing paternity is important in knowing what name should be placed on a child's birth certificate, for financial support, access to family medical records, social security and veterans benefits, inheritance, custody and visitation, and the emotional advantage of building a relationship with both parents and extended families.
The current procedure is an example of good intentions gone badly. If the program was designed to do DNA testing prior to asking a man to sign a "paternity acknowledgment form" then this program would be workable.
However, a program that fails to screen out false paternity establishments scores a temporary statistical victory for states seeking TANF funds, but causes enormous enforcement burdens and emotional costs to the victims of false establishments.'
'Friday marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children but male rape and sexual abuse support groups have spoken out that the campaign is not inclusive of male victims of abuse.
There are many stigmas surrounding sexual crimes against men. This is according to Oliver Meth who is part of a support group called the Rape Survivors Network.
He was brutally gang-raped by three men in a graveyard at the age of 16. Meth is unhappy with the campaign as he believes it further fuels the stigmatisation of male rape survivors by excluding them.
“It stigmatises men to say that men will always be seen as the perpetrator and not seen as the victims of sexual violence or violence. That’s why the 16 days of activism campaign needs to drop gendered language, suggesting that only women and children are victims of sexual violence and abuse; we need to make this campaign much more inclusive so that we can include men.”'
'And feminist legal theorist Janet Halley, their colleague who has contested the OCR's process in the Harvard Law Review, describes the “Dear Colleague” letter as a case of “administrative overreach.”
Halley, who has participated in sexual-violence cases at Harvard, has had concerns about their fairness from the beginning.
She took pains to say that she cares deeply about sexual assault, but she worries about an overcorrection, prompted by OCR, that moves universities from ignoring the rights of accusers to trampling on those of the accused.
“Just imagine if you were asked to go in to explain why you didn’t commit a sexual assault,” Halley said. With no information as to what you’re accused of, who’s accusing you, or when it allegedly happened, “you’re required to start explaining yourself. And you’re 18 years old, and no one is helping you."

'Astronomers who work for the Australian government are demanding “safe workplaces for scientists” that are free of alleged bullying and sexist comments.
The academics demand a safe space from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s state science research organization, because they allege it is “failing to address a culture of bullying and sexual harassment in its astronomy department.”
CSIRO has conducted only 16 investigations into alleged professional misconduct in the department since 2008. None of these investigations led to any legal action and only one involved police.
The academics claim that this extremely low number of investigations is evidence that the Australian government “may suppress reporting of harassment.” The only evidence of harassment provided by the academics demanding a safe space was a statement that their “pain was evident.”
'Feminism claims to stand for two things above all: women's equality and enabling women to be strong.
Regarding the first aim, no decent man or woman opposes the concept of equality of the sexes. But people who do not call themselves feminists have a problem with the feminist notion of equality: Most feminists have conflated equality and sameness. And that's a huge mistake; the sexes are equal, but they are different.
A second major problem regarding the feminist claim of aspiring to women's equality is that feminists frequently provide false evidence to prove that women are not treated as equals.
The best-known example is the false statistic that American women earn about 25 percent less than men when they do the same work for the same amount of time.'
'A lecture by controversial Breitbart editor and “alt-right” personality Milo Yiannopoulos at Canterbury’s Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys was shut down after pressure from the United Kingdom’s Department of Education.
Yiannopoulos is an alumnus of Langston, but was expelled for what he has characterized as “absolutely outrageous behavior.” Nonetheless, the school’s leadership have expressed disappointment at the cancellation, saying that opposition came entirely from outside the school.
“This decision was taken following contact from the Department For Education’s counter extremism unit, the threat of demonstrations at the school by organised groups and members of the public and our overall concerns for the security of the school site and the safety of our community,” said head teacher Matthew Baxter in a statement.'

'Already in the midst of five open Title IX investigations, Cornell is now facing a lawsuit alleging that the University’s Title IX coordinator, Sarah Affel, neglected to investigate a complaint by a student who was involved in a sexual assault.
The lawsuit states that two students — referred to as John Doe and Jane Roe — accused each other of sexual assault and says the University opened investigations into both complaints.
However, according to the lawyer behind the suit, Alan Sash, Cornell’s investigators only considered Roe’s complaint and ignored Doe’s on the basis of his gender.
He said that Cornell violated its own policy 6.4 — the University’s guidelines for investigating discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault and violence — which was revised in August in order to be more fair to both parties involved in assault investigations.'

'A former middle school teacher in Texas pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student before becoming pregnant as a result.
Police say 24-year-old Alexandria Vera, 24, allegedly sexually assaulted the child “on almost a daily basis”, according to KTRK. She faced federal charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Vera taught eighth grade English at Stovall Middle School in Houston before surrendering herself to authorities for the alleged sexual assault in May.

The teacher became pregnant in January 2016, but said she had an abortion after Texas Child Protective Services showed up to the school in February to question her about the relationship.
Investigators found evidence of the relationship on her cell phone, despite her initial denial of any wrongdoing.'
'“Gender equal snow-cleaning is not to blame here,” Daniel Helldén, the city’s Green Party transport head told the Expressen newspaper, stressing that the policy, which prioritises cleaning pavements and cycle lanes over roads, did not even appear to have even been followed.
“There is a lack of gender equal snow-clearing now, according to the reports I’m getting,” he said. “It’s still difficult to walk on the pavements — and it is important that snow-clearing prioritises walkways, public transport and cycle paths.”
Stockholm’s municipal government, a coalition of the Social Democrats and the Green Party, brought in gender equal snow cleaning last year, pledging to make moving around the city on icy winter days just as safe for women as it is for men.

In a papers filed to a California court, the New York Knicks star claims that he and his fellow defendants are 'entitled' to 'expenses they necessarily incurred in defending themselves against…false claims' brought by the woman.
In 2013 she accused Rose, his manager Randall Hampton and childhood friend Ryan Allen of drugging and raping her.
She claims the three defendants gang raped her without her consent, but while they three men admitted to having sex with the woman, they maintain the act was consensual.'
'An 18-year-old University of Alabama student has been charged for falsely reporting she was raped in a parking lot near campus on Sunday, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide investigators announced on Friday.
The student, Emma Katherine Mannion, is charged with filing a false report, a Class A misdemeanor, Captain Gary Hood said.
The student told police she was forced into a red Jeep Cherokee and sexually assaulted around 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. She said it happened in Solomon's parking lot near 6th Street and Wade Wallace Boulevard, near the northwest corner of Bryant-Denny Stadium.'
