Harvard’s nondiscrimination hypocrisy

Article here. Excerpt:

'When should traditional liberal values be sacrificed to important but narrower ends? That is the question behind Harvard University’s effort to subordinate freedom of association and freedom of speech to a locally fashionable form of “nondiscrimination.”

Last spring, the university decided to attack the off-campus, all-male Final Clubs by disqualifying their membersfrom Rhodes Scholarships and other distinctions — unless the clubs admitted women. A few of these clubs are infamous for loud parties and drunken misbehavior. The new strategy against them had the merit of novelty, even in the absence of evidence that coed clubs would behave any better.

Faculty members reacted with alarm, recalling Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s persecution of Harvard professors in the 1950s simply for belonging to a hated organization. Students deserve a better lesson from Harvard than an attempt to solve social problems by blackballing members of unpopular groups.

Expert: Title IX Guidance Exists to Deprive Accused Male Students of Fair Hearings

Article here. Excerpt:

'Defenders of the Education Department's Title IX dictates usually insist that the point of the law is to provide female students equal access to education. Because the campus sexual assault epidemic had effectively denied women this opportunity, it was necessary for the federal government to step up Title IX enforcement, activists say.

But now and then, the mask slips.

Consider this interview with Andrew Morse, a director for policy and research at NASPA and consultant on higher education compliance issues. The interview is somewhat aimless, but the underlying point seems to be this: campus sexual assault policies in the states vary wildly, which could become an issue if Betsy DeVos becomes Education Secretary and reins in the Office for Civil Rights, the agency responsible for enforcing Title IX.'

UK: Mothers 'an unseen force' in 'honour' abuse

Article here. Excerpt:

'Mothers are the "unseen force" behind so-called honour-based abuse, inflicting violence on their daughters, a study has found.

Research by Rachael Aplin, a criminologist from Leeds Beckett University, said this was often unrecognised by police.

Of the 100 "honour" crimes she studied, 49 involved mothers - but this was often not recorded in crime reports.

Cases included violence to daughters, sometimes to induce an abortion.

She said the focus on any action taken against perpetrators should be on both males and females.

Mrs Aplin, a senior lecturer in criminology at the university, is on a career break from her role as a police detective sergeant.'

Due Process Demands for College Men Are 'Propaganda,' Lawyer Claims

Article here. Excerpt:

'When young men are accused of sexual assault on a college campus, should they be entitled to due process and a fair trial? Should they be able to show evidence that shows their innocence? Should they be able to cross-examine their accuser?
...
But while many people understand that the campus court system is deeply stacked against young men, feminist activists continue to push back against due process protections for young men, most recently Annaleigh E. Curtis, a lawyer in private practice.

Curtis published “Due Process Demands as Propaganda: The Rhetoric of Title IX Opposition” in the most recent issue of Yale Journal of Law and the Humanities, where she argued that “due process demands function as propaganda” under the regime of “rape culture” on college campuses.'

The whole episode prompted the Lakeland Police Department to warn citizens to “be careful about what you post on social media so as not to victimize an innocent person … Before posting information on matters such as this, we encourage people to identify the source and the validity of such claims before sharing them.”

Fate of kids draws concern over female criminal prisoners, but not males

Article here. Valid points regarding the children of female criminal prisoners. Just as valid though when discussing male prisoners. But no one is writing about that. Excerpt:

'No one in the criminal justice system is responsible for the safety of children whose mothers go to jail, an investigation by The Dallas Morning News has found. Not in North Texas, and not in most communities across the country.

While the moms may have committed crimes, the kids are innocent. Most were born and raised in tough circumstances they didn’t choose. When their mothers get locked up, the children often suffer.

No agency tracks or monitors the children of people who are arrested, not even of women who are solo caretakers. So no one knows how many kids are home alone because of a parent’s arrest. No one knows how many go to foster care. Or get handed off to inappropriate guardians. Or end up on the streets.'

Christina Hoff Sommers On Feminists, Eradicating Men, And Campus Culture Misery

Article here. Excerpt:

'Christina Hoff Sommers studies the politics of gender and feminism as an AEI resident Scholar, and is the host of the “Factual Feminist” video series. Sommers joins Ben Domenech on this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour to discuss the current state of American feminism and its increasing intolerance and aggression. Sommers explains concepts like the “matrix of oppression” maintained by feminists.

“When I was feminist in the ‘70s and ‘80s it was fun and about liberation,” she said. “And now it’s more about collecting grievances.”

Some factions of feminists go as far as to call for the eradication of men. “There’s so much goodness in people and if you’re going to categorize them by their gender and write them off as hateful, then you’re just missing out,” she said. “It’s just going to create a culture of misery and fear, and that’s what we are seeing on college campuses.”
