'A former Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui employee is facing charges alleging she sexually assaulted a pre-teenage girl at the agency’s Central Maui clubhouse last year.

Victoria Satoafaiga, 28, of Waikapu was arrested in December after being indicted by a Maui County grand jury. She posted a $101,000 bail bond to be released, court records show.

Satoafaiga has pleaded not guilty to third-degree sexual assault, first-degree sexual assault and second-degree custodial interference.

Another charge of attempted third-degree sexual assault was dismissed July 11 when 2nd Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo granted a defense request.

She said the prosecution asserted that the attempted third-degree sexual assault involved sexual biting and sucking of the victim’s chest area, causing hickeys, on Oct. 27.

“The state, however, fails to include this information in the indictment,” Loo said.

Kavanaugh is President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement. Now the liberal group UltraViolet is trying to derail his nomination using the anti-sex abuse harassment known as #MeToo.

Kavanaugh had previously clerked for 9th U.S. Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski from 1990 to 1991. Kozinski abruptly retired last year after 15 women accused him of sexual harassment. Now Ultraviolet is tying Kavanaugh to Kozinski by demanding an investigation into whether the Supreme Court nominee knew about his former boss’ alleged abuse.'

'A judge has ordered California State University to overturn the expulsion of a male student who allegedly sexually assaulted a female student.

John Doe, as he is referred to in court documents, will be reinstated after the school relied on hearsay and misrepresented evidence to conclude he had committed sexual assault against a student referred to as Jane Roe.

As is typical in these cases, the two students met at an off-campus party. The party occurred on March 5, 2016 at the Delta Chi Fraternity chapter of California Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo, which falls under the CSU umbrella. Both students have admitted to kissing while dancing together, but that’s where their stories diverge.'

'A day care owner who pleaded guilty to attempted murder for trying to kill a toddler by hanging him from a noose in her basement was sentenced Monday to probation.

Nataliia Karia, 43, was sentenced in Hennepin County court in Minnesota to 10 years, the Star Tribune reported. She also was sentenced to mandatory mental health treatment, and will be on electronic home monitoring for two months.

In November 2016, a father was dropping off his son at Karia’s home for childcare, a criminal complaint stated. She led him to the basement, where he saw a toddler hanging from a noose. The father released the 16-month-old and fled. The child survived.

Karia reportedly fled the scene in her minivan, and while doing so, hit a pedestrian, another driver and a bicyclist — for which she pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation.'

As a personal defense enthusiast and writer, part of me wants to applaud this.

The problem, of course, is that campuses have mucked up the definitions. They include things as rape or sexual assault that do not match legal definitions. For example, consenting women who later regret the sex have made "rape" accusations on campus, and punishments have indeed been given in such situations.

'A University of Michigan student accused of sexual assault will be granted a hearing, a federal judge ruled this week, overriding the university’s policy that denies such hearings.

“As soon as practicable, the University is hereby ordered to provide Plaintiff with the opportunity for a live hearing in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities,” U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow wrote in an opinion filed Friday.

The University of Michigan’s policy does not grant live hearings for defendants of sexual misconduct, while doing so for others accused of wrongdoing.'

'A University of Maine professor who was accused of sexual harassment has been cleared.

The Bangor Daily News reports that English professor Robert “Tony” Brinkley was granted access to campus last month after officials concluded an investigation. Brinkley was placed on leave on Jan. 2.

University officials determined Brinkley didn’t violate the school’s policy standards in two cases. Officials have declined to provide details.

Brinkley, who has taught at UMaine since 1983, said university officials honored the complaints and conducted a thorough investigation, “as they should.”'

'Changes in how the University of Kentucky handles sexual assault allegations are in line with new Trump administration guidelines, but experts warn they may break the law by giving the accused more rights than the accuser.

The changes, which UK made last month, allow a person who is found to have committed sexual misconduct by a disciplinary panel to appeal the findings, but they do not give the same opportunity to the person who made the allegations.
