'The #MeToo movement has prompted an Interior Department-run panel to rename a glacier in Antarctica.

The U.S. Board on Geographic Names — a multiagency body in the U.S. Geological Survey — relabeled the Marchant Glacier last week after the scientist for which it's named was found by Boston University to have engaged in sexual harassment.

The glacier's now called the Matataua Glacier, according to Lou Yost, executive secretary of the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.

The landform was previously named for geologist David Marchant, who was linked to more than $5 million in grant awards from the National Science Foundation and NASA. A Boston University investigation last year found Marchant sexually harassed female researchers during a 1999-2000 field expedition in Antarctica.

'The Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh has moved out of the field of nomination and into the bizarro field of male-bashing.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation has now become the left’s means of publicly hating on males — white males, in particular, at least according to “The View” host Joy Behar.

Could we please circle this circus show on back to the matter at hand, which, as anyone with long memories can attest, is supposed to be about upholding the integrity of America’s judicial system?

Oh yeah, about that. Behar’s busy doing this instead, speaking in context of discussing the players in the Senate Judiciary Committee who are responsible for Kavanaugh’s confirmation: “These white men, old by the way, are not protecting women,” she said during a recent show, Fox News reported.

And then this marvel of investigative prowess: “They’re protecting a man who is probably guilty.”

'Town Ward candidate Jenny Lanciault says that a forthcoming public debate for women candidates in the municipal election is sexist — and she won't attend unless male candidates are invited to participate, too.

"I'm not flying on a gender card," Lanciault said in an interview Tuesday. "I don't want to play into that mindset – I want a level playing field."

The event is called Spotlight on Women and it's being held next week at the Peterborough Public Library.

It's being organized by the Canadian Federation of University Women – Peterborough Club.

The eight women candidates for council have been invited to come speak about the issues and why they're running.

Most Americans believe free speech and the presumption of innocence are cornerstones of democracy. But not Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawii.

In a recent interview about the sexual misconduct allegations against Judge Kavanaugh, Hirono remarked,

'Not only do women, like Dr. Ford, who bravely comes forward, need to be heard, but they need to be believed. Guess who's perpetuating all of these kinds of actions? It's the men in this country. And I just want to say to the men in this country, "Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change."'

Should the standard be criminal liability? Presumably not, since most accusers are emerging to speak long after alleged incidents. Should the standard be credibility of the individual telling the story combined with supporting details that lend additional credibility? Perhaps, but that apparently isn't enough for some. The standard promoted by many in the #MeToo movement is the far-too-simplistic and outright dangerous "believe all women" standard. By that standard, former President Bill Clinton is a rapist. So are the Duke lacrosse players, the members of a University of Virginia frat house and a foreign exchange Columbia University student — all of whom were exonerated.'
