As if we need any reminder that political correctness is rampant in education these days, this article on Fox News reports that zero tolerance is adversely affecting school systems by tying them too closely to law enforcement. Although the article does not specifically mention gender, one must wonder how many of the students being suspended in these zero tolerance cases are male.

Adam Jones wrote this interesting piece about the slaughter of ethnic-Albanian men in Kosovo. Much is heard around the world about the killing of women because they are women. Jones provides an interesting look at the killing of men and the lack of attention it gets in the media. A broad sample of media commentary is presented to demonstrate that "unworthy" male victims tend to be marginalized or ignored entirely in mass-media coverage. A trio of common marginalization strategies is discussed, and a theoretical framework of "first-order," "second-order," and "third-order" gendering is proposed to clarify the deficit in coverage. This deficit is then contrasted with the attention given to the victimization experiences of "worthy" victims, such as women, children, and the elderly.

This story in the National Post details a long-running battle in Canada against unfair child support laws affecting non-custodial parents (particularly fathers). In what is widely interpreted as a deliberate attempt to force government to clarify the law, [Judge Jack] Watson ruled that students are destitute because they cannot go to school and work at the same time. The father is asking that the ruling be suspended while he challenges it in the Alberta Court of Appeal. Many students do work while in college. Hopefully, the appeals court will recognize that fact.

Wendy McElroy's latest column examines home schooling, and attributes its rise in popularity to the prevelance of feminist political correctness in the public school system. She also mentions Doris Lessing's recent comments about how cowed boys are in school this days, blamed for being male.

You know that William Pollack theory that boys develop emotional deficiencies due to socialization which forces them to be emotionally detached? It's bunk, according to this article on Excite News. Dr. Mark S. Kiselica, associate professor and chair of the department of counselor education at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, says If that's the norm, then insecure attachments should be the norms for boys and men--men should long for intimate relationships, yet recoil from them. There's no empirical research to support those claims.

A student columnist at North Carolina State U. had this to say about how insulting modern advertising is. She specifically mentions the Rogaine commercials we all despise so much, and points out that they should be as insulting to women as they are to men. Applause.

Steve from the Stop Anti-Male Bias Yahoo! Club created a letter template which can be sent to media outlets such as ABC, CBS, NBC, and other print media sources. The intent is to let the media know that there are people out there who want to hear or read a more balanced portrayal of domestic violence during the upcoming Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. A UK Group has admitted that it failed many young men who were sexually abused by a doctor over a span of eight years. According to the story, the group is considering new guidelines to streamline complaints about doctors. In the cases of the abused young men, the complaints were ignored or bogged down in red tape.

In typical feminist media fashion this article on Excite News acknowledges that both boys and girls are victims of date violence these days, but then goes on to focus almost entirely on the female victims. The report suggests that 9 percent of females and 6 percent of males in high school are victims of date violence. Not a large difference in percentages there. Wonder why male victims are ignored?

This story on Excite News reveals a new campaign by Utah State University to teach women alone how to to defend themselves against sexual assaults. The college offers a self-defense class "for women only" to this end. The article, at the end, acknowledges male victims of sexual assault, but then dismisses them based on numbers.

In spite of the author's obvious support of women holding sexual power over men, this column on Excite News makes a good point about how duplicitous feminism is regarding the sexual display of femininity, specifically, the exposing of women's undergarments as a fashion statement: is it women sexually expressing themselves, or women oppressing themselves by making themselves "objects" of men's desire? Unfortunately, the author does not point out the third possibility: that these women could be using sex as a manipulative advantage.

Contrary to the recent feminist posting on this Web site accusing men of apathy regarding men's health issues, this story on Excite News indicts a lack of education and awareness of prostate cancer as a chief cause of a lack of early detection, particulary among African American men.
