Religious 'Fear' of Women

Neil Steyskal pointed me to this article from the Washington Post. It's about the history of religions and how they are rooted in male contempt (and fear of) women and femininity. Apparently the author of the article hasn't read anything by Rich Zubaty.

Men in Afghanistan Shave Off Beards

krob4399 submitted this New York Times article (free registration required to read) about how men in some parts of Afghanistan are now free to shave their beards since the Taliban have left. I thought this was a very interesting story about the new cultural freedoms men will be able to enjoy in a Taliban-free Afghanistan.

Kathleen Parker on Drafting Women

Neil Steyskal sent in this article from TownHall.com and writes "Kathleen Parker says that drafting women will result in a wave of pregnancies" Parker's views are mixed, she is strongly against women in combat but does seem to believe that women should make some sacrifices for the sake of our military. It seems that the main purpose of her article is to refute Anna Quindlen's recent Newsweek article which defends drafting women.

Harvard Rejects Case For Marriage Out of Political Bias

This article in the National Review suggests that Harvard's publishing house refused to publish a book titled The Case of Marriage out of a political bias for feminist orthodoxy rather than the reasons the publishing house's board originally stated: that they believed the book failed to provide evidence of casual benefits of marriage. Now, though, researchers claim to have proven those benefits: For the first time in the history of research on marriage, Ginther and Zovodny appear to have successfully shown that the "marriage premium" — the tendency of married individuals to make more money than single people — is an actual effect of marriage, and not just a function of a preference shown by both employers and potential spouses for people with qualities likely to bring about success.

Man Awarded $150,000 After False Rape Allegation

Here's a refreshing tale from law.com. A man falsely accused of rape by a co-worker was branded a rapist without due process, prodded and invaded by his employer, and subjected to all kinds of humiliation. Subsequently, a jury has awarded him $150,000 in damages.

Thomas writes "According to this article in today's Rocky Mountain News, Bob Rowan has received a summons for misdemeanor criminal tampering. The charge is for his removal of the "Hang 'em out to dry" exhibit from the Boulder Public Library. It's worth noting that, when I spoke with him this morning, he was very upbeat because of the amount of community support that he is receiving." Update: Rowan has e-mailed me personally and will be attending tonight's chat! Remember, it starts at 9:30 PM Eastern Time tonight, and you can participate by clicking here to go to the on-line chat page. Part 2 of "Mothers Need Money Not Fathers"

I'm half tempted to not post the latest piece of anti-father psuedo-science by womensenews.org but I think some activism is needed here. To get straight to it, they blame fathers for the nearest mothers' problems and think a socialistic quick fix is the answer, among other points of mindless folly. If you want to respond to this, try writing in the letters to the editors section. And guess what? it says "Note: Women's Enews reserves the right to edit or delete letters." Funny thing is, that wasn't there last week...

ACLU Defends Colorado Misandry

Steve writes "The ACLU wants to prosecute the man who stole the ceramic penises. The story is here. You can also vote on whether he should be charged, and comment on it." It looks like they've closed the voting poll, but people have clearly come out against the display, saying that the man was justified in removing it.

Men Need Not Apply?

Fredpro writes "I was just browsing through my University's online jobs listing, and of the three relevant positions available one specifically (and quite obviously) encourages females to apply.
The job is in the physics/engineering/computer science field and I understand that females are a minority in this particular area. My question is, are they allowed to recommend a specific gender should apply? I'm unsure, and before I whine to the employer, I would like to get my facts straight. Thanks!"
Also note that this University is in Australia.

More details will follow as they become available. Don't get your hopes up just yet, though....

Men: The Expendable Sex

I wrote this column about the draft and the perceived expendability of men versus women a while back for my now-defunct The Guy Code column. Wendy McElroy at ifeminists.com graciously agreed to use it as a guest editorial on her page. I am also linking to it from MANN because the draft is, of course, a hot topic for us.

Murderer Receives Domestic Violence Award

Amazing. This story on BBC News details the awarding of a "domestic violence" award to an Asian woman for "breaking the silence" about domestic violence against women. What did this Asian woman do that deserved the award? She murdered her husband rather than going to the police. In fact, she was jailed for life for the brutal murder, in which she set her husband on fire. Scott's note: Also thanks to an Anon User who submitted this story.
